I thought this 1940 D nickel had a nice set of steps even though they are not perfect. Thanks for looking

@jfe, it looks to me like you are more interested in opinions on the grade rather than there being a mint errors or variety. I'm going to move your thread over to a different subforum so let us know if I'm making a mistake here. Thx.

If it were a later year than 1940, I think PCGS would probably grade that nickel as full steps. Absolutely a nice coin regardless.

I have to agree with you. This year and mint has a larger than normal population of full step so the grading companies can be a bit more picky.

I really don't see circulation wear so I but this at MS62. Slightly weak strike (again for this year and mint). Lots of minor stuff on the obverse. Maybe in hand it shows better?

Quite Nice. in my opinion, after doing some looking around, the 1940-D Nickels Look like they have somewhat of a weak strike in my opinion.
