Hello and welcome.

Unfortunately, this is not actually a coin. While Chinese "cash" coins are of this same basic design - round, square hole, four Chinese characters in the compass points - this design with the four bars coming off at the angles was not used for coinage. What we have here is a "coin-like charm", a lucky amulet. If we can have a more close-up view of the characters we might be able to translate them, but it's usually along the lines of "long life, prosperity, many children" kind of thing.

Oh wow. Do these hold any value? I wonder how my grandmother acquired it and thought it was a dynasty coin & . She mainly collected uncirculated Morgan's, she has at least a hundred tubes or more she left me. I thought it was really weird to find this in her collection. I'll try to get better photos of the characters for you guys. Do you know if these were made of pure gold or gold leaf? I might list this one on ebay. Thanks again and again I'll try to get better photos for you.

@ca1s, first welcome to CCF. Second, when you add a close-up picture of this coin, can you also please comment as to whether there is anything on the other side? If there are additional characters, then please add a picture of them too. Finally, this looks quite thin and it looks like there are three or four pierce marks in it. Could you please measure and post the weight? Thx.

Are they valuable? Not usually. Some older charm types are, but telling the difference between an "old charm" and a more recent version is beyond my experience.

It looks golden-coloured; if it's actually made of gold it would be valuable just on the gold content, but these charms are much more commonly made of brass.

Something dubious or at least curious since the Qing Dynasty began in 1644.
So Qing Dynasty 1600 AD doesn't seem right.

Because there are lots of hucksters out there selling worthless junk to people who don;t do their homework and get duped.
Good ol' fashioned American capitalism.

I'd also like to see the characters with good clarity.
It looks uniface and stamped very thin.
Unlike any legit cash of the 1600's.
Could help to get better replies.
