OK, the 1908-S is arriving next week, and I will only be TWO coins short in completing my Indian Head cent set! I've been working on it off and on for 20 years now, so I'll be pretty excited to get it done. Unfortunately the two I am lacking are the rarest of the series: 1909-S and, of course, the 1877. I currently have them in a Dansco album, but my question is this: should I transfer them to 2x2 holders and put them in a binder instead? I feel like they'll be preserved better, and maybe they can be examined more easily. These coins are so dark they're sometime tough to see that well, and I wonder if the dark Dansco background probably doesn't help. What are everyone else thoughts on that?

I have an Intercept Shield album for my Indians. Looks pretty good actually. I also have a collection in an old 1950's Library of Coins album and a binder with 20 pocket 2x2's.

19 more years for me to catch up to you! I've got a pretty good jump, but the 2 you're missing, I'll be missing for a long time I can imagine.

They will be preserved no better in 2x2s. Not sure how they would be any easier to view in a binder. Yeah, you could pull them out to closely examine them, but its not like I wuld be doing that on a regular basis. If that is something you do, then that would be the only reason to switch IMO.
And great job on getting this far with the set! I built one set and sold it that was missing only the 09S. I am working on finishing the set my father started from roll hunting in the 70's. Gonna be a while. LOL

Congratulations on making it this far! For what it is worth, I would leave them in the Dansco.

Congratulation on you progress. Long ago (decades) I started putting my IHC's into a Capital Plastics holder. This holder is their BVD series and is 8" x 14". These holders offer extremely good protection to the coins and allow viewing of both sides. The biggest downside is their cost. On ebay you can sometimes find good condition used holders in the $40 to $50 range. Sorry for the crappy pic, I was in a hurry...

i started in an album like you currently have, and then put every coin I paid over $3 for in 2X2's in a binder. It made more sense since some of the rarer ones and subsequent upgrades were in slabs, too. When I took the Indians out of the album, I put in a piece of paper saying what condition it was in and a note saying where the coin was stored '2X2' or 'ANACS' or 'PCGS'. This gave me a sense of accomplishment in the album that you can't readily get from a binder of 2X2s.

Really cool display Penny Guy. Is it very prone to scratches ?

That's an awesome display Pennyguy! Your coins are in much better condition than mine, but constant upgrades are also part of the process!

The Plexiglas used in Capital Plastics holders are subject to scratching. Mine are all kept in a flannel pouch they sell and then in the box that they came in new. I understand that Capital has discontinued the box. But, that said, your favorite automotive plastic cleaner for headlight covers works very well on these holders.

To answer the OP's question ... I like the Danso album for a lower grade set. It'll provide easier access, should you decide to upgrade. Also, congratulations for your perseverance in assembling that set, mklpatrick! PennyGuy - I think the Capital holders are great for a higher grade set like yours. Years ago, I assembled a complete set of Buffalo nickels, all full horns, VF+-Unc. I periodically displayed it in a blue, Capital holder, and like your Indian set, it drew many compliments. The first dealer I offered it to, didn't quibble the asking price. Capital holders offer added pizzazz for higher grade sets. IMHO, the Capital holders make lower grade coins look inadequate; this, akin to dressing an unshaven and disheveled hobo in a tuxedo.
