Hi all,

With the recent directives from the federal gov't about stopping cent production, I'm wondering if anyone's found a 2025 cent or seen one yet? I'm not sure when the Mint begins production of that year's coins (for all I know they're still striking 2024s).

But if this cessation of production holds, it's possible a 2025 cent could become a modern scarcer date.

The US mint has already made 242M 2025 cents in January. They should start popping up soon.

I do not expect to see any until the uncirculated and proof mint sets get delivered—assuming they still have cents in them!

To all, good luck on the hunt!

Lol it's tempting to start placing orders to try and get lucky and get a box of these. This reminds me of the hysteria around the 2009 penny and nickels.

Try over $300 for three shield cents and still days to go, and the seller does not even have them in hand yet....

I wouldn't go too crazy quite yet. Seems like there's a pattern of saying one thing and doing another.

Or we simply do what Canada, Australia, NZ and a few other countries have done since the 1990s and abolish the penny - but that still doesn't create a shortage of the currency. Heck, the 242M already minted isn't a small number.

Our money isn't tied to a standard and is really a currency token. Humanity likes to simplify things so this tends to "help" us forget that even if it costs 3 cents to mint a new cent, that cent will remain in circulation for decades and as such has a longer-term value.

As for the potential collector craze? I've been hoarding copper cents for a few years since it's so incredibly inexpensive to do so. If that bumps up the value of what I have, I'll sell them and buy an egg or two.

I want to say the eventual buyer gets what they deserve.
