Stopped by a couple banks with which I have no accounts looking for halves they'd like to discard and came upon 3 rolls between them. To my surprise there were 4 1964 P lurking in there! I have several more to check tomorrow - hopefully the streak continues. Incidentally I'm finding these smaller numbers of rolls are where the silver has been hiding, similar to the experience of many here.

@John77, I am definitely feeling your pain this week. I went through a LOT of dimes since Tuesday ($600+) and only TODAY found a single silver - a 51 S hole filler! - and a 2009 S clad proof. Incidentally this was also the first proof dime I've found roll hunting...and these were all customer wrapped. Teller from whom I got today's CWR had more, and if there's another 50's S mint or two, I'd be over the moon.

Keep at it. I know it sounds trite but if you enjoy the hunt, the droughts aren't all that miserable.

6 more silver dimes in the past week (46 P, 52 D, 56 D, 62 D and two 64 P) plus a bonus 68 D KHD loosie from a teller tray. Puts me at 70 silver dimes for 2025, mostly on the back of a single full roll of silver dimes back in January. Still looking for a bunch of album fillers but they're mostly early 50s S mints so will likely have to locate a collection dump to find em!

I wouldn't go too crazy quite yet. Seems like there's a pattern of saying one thing and doing another.

Or we simply do what Canada, Australia, NZ and a few other countries have done since the 1990s and abolish the penny - but that still doesn't create a shortage of the currency. Heck, the 242M already minted isn't a small number.

Our money isn't tied to a standard and is really a currency token. Humanity likes to simplify things so this tends to "help" us forget that even if it costs 3 cents to mint a new cent, that cent will remain in circulation for decades and as such has a longer-term value.

As for the potential collector craze? I've been hoarding copper cents for a few years since it's so incredibly inexpensive to do so. If that bumps up the value of what I have, I'll sell them and buy an egg or two.

No TPG with any integrity would grade that as authentic - and it wouldn't be the strong reverse die pairing anyway.

However, it is a cool piece on its own and in a basement slab, which is of great interest to a certain group of collectors!

How Common Are Silver Half Dollars In "Ordinary" Boxes Of Bank-Rolled Coins?

On average I see silver halves in one out of roughly every three boxes (more like 3.2 boxes). Typically when I do it's a few 40%ers or a single 90%er. Since last year I haven't hunted bank boxes since I've shifted to CWR as much as possible as I was just getting uncirculated KHD box after box, and I can go through way more dimes with $500 compared to halves. Losing 10 cents per silver dime pulled is a lot easier for a hobby hunter like me to absorb as opposed to halves...but I suppose in the universe of problems, finding silver at face value regardless of denomination is a good thing. Purely mathematically it makes more sense to hunt nickels for ROI but I am really getting into the weeds now!

First silver quarter of 2025. Went through over $1900 in mixed CWR/MWR to finally arrive at a silver edge. Much older than I expected!

A silver dime is a silver dime, and a lot of stackers prefer the mercs over rosies because they were ALL 90% silver, whereas you'd have to know that Rosies before 1965 are 90% silver. Nice find!!!

Still tougher than dimes WRR silver but since Jan 1, going through $970 in quarters, I've found two 2020 W (tallgrass prairie, salt river bay), two S business strikes (tallgrass prairie, salt river bay), a few foreigns and a BEAUTY of a 1979 S proof that must have just been dumped. It was in a CWR.and has plenty of cameo left

Despite that I'll continue to look desperately for silver.

You may have seen in the thread about finding entire rolls of silver coins, but I happened upon a CWR with 23 Roosevelt and 27 Mercury dimes yesterday on my drive from Philly to north GA. I'll be stopping back on Tuesday during the return trip to see if those tellers have more.

But here's what was in that roll (plus a lone 1944 S Merc in a MWR from the same search):

Counting down from newest to oldest:

1957 D
1950 P
1950 D
1948 P
1947 S
1947 P x 6
1946 D x 4
1946 P x 7

1945 P x 3
1944 D
1944 P x 6
1943 S
1943 P x 4
1942 D
1942 P x 4
1941 P
1940 P
1937 P x 3
1936 P
1927 P

Lots of hole fillers for the circ merc album and a few for the circulating Rosie album, too.

Hopeful that this is an auspicious start to 2025.

Just today! Driving from Philly to north GA so stopped at a bank in SW VA as they opened up. $150 of dimes, $100 were MWR (gave up a solitary 1943 S merc which was great on its own). The last CWR was in a different wrapper and sure enough, here's what was on the ends

And in the middle? 23 Rosies (mostly 1946 and 1947 of various mints with some 1948-50 and 1957), plus 27 mercs!

Mercs range from 1927-1945, mostly 1940s dates and mints.

This fills a few holes in the album and puts a bunch of silver in the jar for 2025.
