Now is the time to ask the annual question regarding our collecting goals!

If you have not given a final report in the 2024 topic, feel free to do that first...

1. Fill the last three core Dansco album holes
7000 - 1916-D Mercury dime.
8100 (2) - 1909-S VDB and 1922 "Plain" (no D).

2. Buy whatever appeals to me from 2025 US Mint offerings (List TBD)

3. Add some Ike and WWII related coins from around the world.

4. Move my world coins from 2x2 holders (stored in 12 pocket Dansco pages) into various hole sized of standard Dansco pages. If I do it right I should be taking photos as well.

My goal is to sell off as much of my collection as I can.

My failing eyesight has made it difficult to recognize/enjoy my coins.

My collection is listed as ewen0hu in Numista if anyone would like to see my list.

Here are my ambitious goals for 2025.

1. Upgrade a few of my Barber half dollars that are on my upgrade list.

2. Complete my Carson City Morgan dollar set. 80, 81, 84, 85, and 89 needed.

3. Add at least one S mint Trade dollar in XF-Low AU.

4. Complete a Franklin half dollar Dansco. Already started but only have a couple holes filled.

Sticking with same goals as 2024.

1) Add the missing coins to my slabbed 7070.
2) Add the missing coins to my slabbed Indian Head cent
3) Add the missing notes to my US currency type set.
4) Add any missing coins to my coins from Portugal Type Set.
5) Add any missing notes to my currency from Portugal Type set.
6) Upgrade any coins that I can from my albums

None of these will be completed, but I'll work on these sets as my hobby fund is replenished.

Simple, yet complex: sort and organize the numerous bulk lots of non-USA I have acquired over the past 15 years.
I might have to hire an assistant ..

Complete my Canadian Commemorative Silver Dollar set (one coin left to purchase) plus those to be minted in 2025.
Then to complete some of my bullion sets. (Birds of Prey $5.00 dollar series, National Parks $20 dollar series, etc.)
That is if health, wealth and wife allows.

My goal is to begin liquidating the bulk of my coins. I need to get a large pile sent to PCGS and ANACS. Selling off the Morgan VAMs first and then other items. Looking for silver and gold to hit unbelievable prices sometime in 2025 so I can take advantage of offloading most of the stack. This will probably take 2-3 years by which time I hope to sail into retirement in the Blue Ridge mountains.

Continue collecting key & semi-key Wheat cents. Add to my total of Flying Eagle cents. And continue to look for open pour cast silver bars.

from the bottom of my post on 1/8/2024:

so for 2024, it's the same plan, basically. if I can snag a few more morgans, and/or some additional things for the type album, that'd be great. my biggest focus, however, will be to squeeze the streets for more gold.

squeezing more gold (and silver) from the streets was all I was able to accomplish this year. I didn't get anything for my LWC folder or my ASE, type & morgan albums.

so the 2024 plan continues into 2025.

Here are my goals for 2025:

1. Work on my new set of Curacao & The Netherlands Antilles.
2. Slowly add to my Provincial Coins of Utrecht. Hopefully I find something to my liking at the upcoming NY International Numismatic Convention.
3. Continue with my Symphony Set of Coins. Include raw as well as graded coins and medals.
4. Complete more subsets of my Birthyear Set Collection.
5. Circulation Cameo Morgan dollar Date Set.
Just started this set in late 2024 as I wanted an example of an iconic 19th century American coin to complement my already complete 20th-21st Century Type Set.

Honestly numismatics has taken a back seat to life with a child rapidly approaching double digits, both for financial and time reasons. So 2025 will be a treading water year for me with regards to coin and paper money collecting, much like 2024 was. So, whatever few annual products I still purchase from the US Mint and trying to get 2025 coins from circulation. Maybe a little bit of stacking silver.

My main focus is on three sets to "complete", while I'm still gainfully employed:
  • 1/4 oz China gold pandas -- still need 3 more. I have the key and the three I'm missing shouldn't be that hard to find, except for the "reasonable price" part. They're all on ebay so I /could/ get them, but not for what they're asking.
  • 1876 Twenty Cents -- just to finish the circulated set.
  • 1911-D quarter eagle -- a matter of affordability and seeing enough of the "D" to count. I may never be able to get this. It would give me a complete set of the series; without it, I just have a date set with a bonus semi-key.

Anything aside from this is gravy.

What a great idea jbuck! This thread has given me the reason to think and set some goals.

On my part in 2025 I'd like to:
Add one quality taler to my collection
Add one quality pre-1900 Italian 5L/Scudo to my collection
Add a UK 1937 MS64+ crown to my liking
Add an Italian 1927 MS65+ 20L to my liking
Complete my 100-yen MS set
