Found this raw and sent for third-party grading. I find the process useful as I get feedback on my own inexperience as a grader. I'll wait for a few days before I post the grade it got. Thanks for looking.

I'll say EF-40, possibly 45.

I'd say high XF, maybe XF-45, but could be AU-50, depending on the TPG.

Personally I would go with VF. It is possible to just squeeze an XF but the wear particularly on the leaves and bow on the reverse probably won't get you there despite the obverse being of XF grade.

EF 45 Nasty rim ding and numerous gouges would reduce value.

The mintage of 1871-H ten cents was actually considerably less than traditionally thought. You can read the explanation for how many and why in "Dominion Decimals," available from the RCNA.

Very nice - certainly EF, likely EF-45. Might be AU though that would depend on the surfaces which are hard to see... I like the original toning!

Thank you all for your feedback and offering further background on the issue. I had fun taking in everyone's collective thoughts. The TPG straight graded it at VF-30. To the eye, the coin has more lustre than an image can offer, thus the grade surprised me. My main reason to post was to test if I am overgrading, or did the coin just have a bad day. I'd conclude the latter, and it's no big deal to me.

Since you ask, ICCS. I'm ok with their choice of grade though it's conservative.

Looks more like a case of net grading rather than conservative grading IMHO.
