Rest in Peace

I have commented about these previously... folks seem to take them to heart... for a while then slip back into previous bad behaviours. Also, as the forum flow goes, newer members join, others leave or become silent, so once again..The Yearly CrazyB Rant! ( I promise I will stay on ONLY ONE!) In most all the posting I make here, I am interjecting distinct answers to a posters question, most often in detail, thoroughly. It seems that IS (supposed to be) the stated purpose of this forum, numismatic education. Seldom do I ask specific questions, but when I do, I expect the same courtesy in return, not some retort of "go study it for yourself". Folks, if you have knowledge of answers to a posted question, answer it, at least direct the seeker in a positive direction of research, or, explain it the best you can. If you do not know, hold your snarky comments to yourself. If the seeker has said something a bit off, or misunderstands phraseology, help them to get on the right path. Some questions posed are quite simple in nature, others more complex, answer accordingly if you can. Even a canned answer will be better than a bloviated answer. If you can't answer, maybe you know someone who can, PM them and ask them to help out, there are those of us who do just that. Now, some of my own comments at times cross the Rubicon of CCF acceptability as witnessed by my Deleted Posts section ...I do happen to call it as I see it most often, not with intent of harm, but truth and accuracy does indeed matter, and trump what one "feels like" which is always flexible and changeable. Thank you for reading this rant, hope those who need to...will do, and the rest will take it to heart for next time.... Edited to correct, sigh, spelling. Edited by Crazyb0 07/28/2018 12:14 am

I'm with ya Crazyb0. I've been working on my answers, and have been trying to make them better as well. I want to go more in detail, and all of that, so it's easier to understand.

I am thinking I might direct the hand full of members that just don't get it to the stamp forum here on CCF And maybe when I have to keep repeating the same answer over and over and over and over....I should put the beating the dead horse emoji and the end of my answer John1

Crazy, you sure this is a yearly rant? Your point though is definitely worth everyone hearing. If a person wanted to research something themselves they wouldn't ask. Or maybe they have and aren't finding the answer. Or even found the answer and it made no sense. And finally, maybe it is such an interesting or unique issue being asked about the poster feels it needs to be shared so others having the same issue can see the answers. Crazy I have missed your to the point style. It is good to see you my friend.

I definitely agree with your opinion. I try to give the OP a direct answer instead of "research it yourself." I participate a lot in the Coin grading subforum here. For example, I know a few folks just link to PCGS photograde occasionally and tell the OP to "research it themselves" but I will usually just give the OP a grade.

Of course your right. IF someone asks something, they should get some kind of reply or not at all. As a general statement, I've seldom seen bad replies. And seldom rude ones either. That is just a general statement and yes it does happen. I wonder how many others have similar, but different pet peeves?

I'm looking at myself in the mirror. I'm probably at fault for some of this. If I'm not a part of the solution, I guess I'm part of the problem.
I've attached links where the obvious answer lies. Telling the OP this is a test; what's the answer?
I was just trying to instill a sense of pride and accomplishment for the OP to learn and find the answers on their own.
Or how many times have we done the research or written a detailed explanation to an OP and you never hear from them again, not even a thank you!
Or I recently told a member: No pictures?....it never happened. I was trying to be pleasantly sarcastic but the guy took it personal, like I was calling him a liar. The guy was to sensitive and emotional in my opinion.
Other times I have said: Google is your friend.

Quote: Google is our friend... Just as there are people who know, and don't know, about coins; there are people who know, and don't know, how to use a search engine effectively. Some things I can look up in seconds that other people might never find -- it's all in knowing what terms to use and how to know what you're looking for. The right answer is not always in the first few hits, even if you know what you're doing. I think providing links with the full answer to someone's question is fine, as long as you give a short answer first and point them there if they want to know more. Giving only the link is not very friendly (not that I haven't ever done that myself). Telling them to look it up themselves is worse than no answer at all. Maybe they already did that, and now they feel worse.

Quote: Of course, Google Custom Forum Search is the best way to search CCF. Is there an "Advanced" search on here? There have been times when I wanted to use it to find a thread from just a couple of days ago but only remembered a single key word. Being able to sort by date would have helped a lot. It also looks like search includes words from the Recent Topics section, which brings in a lot of unrelated topics.
