I have tried to identify this coin in several books and at several net sites. It seems to be a Mugul coin, perhaps a dam. One side resembles coins of Akbar, the other side resembles nothing I can find. It is 20mm across, 6 mm thick, and weighs 20.3g. Could you help me with identity, ruler, date range, and denomination? Is there a catalog number? Thank you, just trying to get as good an identification as possible so I can trace its history.

The upper image has enough to see "falus sanah" (sanah is year). The lower image shows "zarb" ie the mint, probably Patna. I am unable to find any other detail.

hello drnsreedher, hope you can help with this coin, I've tried on few other forums in the past 3-4 months but have been unsuccessful -

I'm afraid the coins isn't in very good shape but hoping someone can help identify it -

Dimensions -
Diameter: 19.4 mm - 21.5 mm
Weight: 16.66 gm
Thickness: 5.97 - 6.14 mm

owing to the bold strokes, could it possibly be from one of the mughal rulers?

thanks

Dear Amit Kher,
The fabric of your coin is similar to Mughal. Gujarat, Bahmanis and some Indian Princely states have issued coins in the same fabric.
On this coin, the legend is suggestive of "shams" on the first image. So it could possibly mean Shamsuddin Muzaffir of Gujarat or Shamsudin Muhammad of Bahmani. It will need a bit more of consideration to attribute this specifically.

Dear Amit Kher,
This coin does not quite fit into Bahmani style and texture. Neither it conforms with Mughal or Gujarat in entirety. So i.m.o, it must be a Princely State coin, which state it is remains a mystery still.

Dear Amit Kher
Please feel free to post.

In the mean time, the coin you posted has some semblance to Amaravati type coins of the Bhosla rajas of Nagpur.

This coin looks like a dam from Akbar's reign, hazrat Dehli, dated AH.97x.
I have edited your image.

Image quality matters a lot in reading. I think the first image has parts of the legend," falus hazrat dehli". Second image has date in numerals and words. digit "7" is visible. Next could be one or four. The weight and diameter are corresponding. So by all probabilities, it should be an Akbar dam from Delhi.

Regarding information on Bhosla coinage, there is book authored by Prasanth P Kulkarni titled "Coinage of the Bhonsla Rajas of Nagpur". That might be of help.

ref - probable Akbar Dam
Dr Sreedhar I found 1 candidate each on zeno & numista with search hints mentioned by you;
owing to my untrained eye & eagerness I'm hoping my search with your help is about to reach a conclusion

zeno - https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=109690

numista - https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces108794.html

keeping fingers crossed & hoping for at least a higher percentage of confirmation; would hate to mark my coins as "paper weights" :)
i hope you won't mind my humour, I tend to take the most serious things in life with a touch of humour (apologies if I'm stepping out of line)
