Can anyone explain this one? I had just calibrated the scale so there wasn't an issue there. I was just randomly weighing my wheat pennies when this one was way off. is this of any value or is it just a thick planchette ?

*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's essential to have it in the title. ***

Interesting. Full, large and sharp pics of the obverse and reverse could help us determine what may be going on. What year and mint are we dealing with? Thanks.

Welcome.
Please post a clear image of the obverse and reverse.

Ok thanks for the additional information and images - can we get one more picture of this?

With this coin sandwiched between to similar years looking at the sides to get a look at the thickness of your cent compared to 'normal' ones.

That's pretty heavy, but historically thin and thick planchets are just cool to have with little premium. For my own interests I just sent off an MS grade 1971 Lincoln Cent to ANACS which came in at 3.60g. Might be a money loser long-term but I just wanted a heavy planchet on the slab so included it with a bunch of other things I was already sending in.

Yours is a keeper, and seems like the best explanation is a rolled thick planchet, but only a small value increase. However, while your image isn't quite sharp enough to tell, the coin looks somewhat like RPM-001, FS-501.

Thanks you for the extra image! it does appear to be thicker, and that can account for the added weight.
