Mojojo: Thank you for sharing your hard work & due diligence. Will bookmark for future reference.
I think the bullion is 100% accurate. My spreadsheet of the bullion series matches yours. Haven't had time to review the rest.

What is a complete ASE set?

as has been stated previously by many, I'm not sure there is a definitive answer to that as each collector has his/her own opinion of what constitutes a 'complete set'. however, with that being said...

If you had one of each ASE minted (all finishes included) - what would be in that set?

...i think your statement answers the question:

what would be in that set? one of each minted ASE. basically, that's how I look at it.

i have a (hand-written) list similar to Mojojojo's spreadsheet, but it encompasses only the 'Type l reverse' ASE series, 1986-2021. by my count- correct me if I'm wrong- there are 101 unique silver eagles in that run. to me, having 1 example of each of those 101 coins constitutes a 'complete set' (of the Type l reverses only).

leaving out OGP, TPG slabs/labels, etc... I'm resisting the urge to list it all...

That sort of begs the question on how people in general DO collect ASEs.
Because your can collect everything in some disjointed sort of way, just any ol' jumbled together mess and call it your collection. Probably a lot of people just do that. I started out just doing that, taking my time and looking for deals and not giving it a lot of thought. I guess until I obtained some sort of "critical mass" and knew I had to figure out where I was heading, it what I really enjoyed.
To me it was hard to just go after everything just "raw". The list that was shown a few posts back is fine, as far as it goes. It's hard to fathom someone getting all the proofs shown as simply a raw coin. You'll end up with it either OGP or slabbed. You would get the bullion as either raw or slabbed, since there isn't any normal OGP for bullion. But then there are the special ones that were in sets and you typically have the option of OGP or slabbed. The one most notable coin would be the 1995W, it is possible to find those just in the mint capsule, as close as you'll get to raw. But people get really leary of something like that that isn't either still in the set or has been graded and authenticated.
Anyways, just thought I'd chime in about how people collect.

yeah. when I started accumulating them, I knew little to nothing about them and I did so with just 'stacking' in mind. once I had accumulated several, I bought a Mercanti book and read it. I figured that I could make a reasonable run at a 'collection'-- that is, one of each bullion, proof, burnished, etc... I began doing that by 2016-17, and I created my own list. I was making good money then and I could afford several of the sets (2006, 2011, 2012, 2013) to acquire those special coins available only in those sets, and in hindsight I should have gone after the '95-W proof then. a missed opportunity.

i did what I could and got what I got and am happy with the collection even though I lack two coins. I got in at a good time and got out at a good time. I have them all in dansco albums and that's what I was aiming for, so... mission accomplished. the plan for the missing two sits on the back burner.

i have some of the OGP and I have several coins in slabs. it's not important to me to have all of the OGP or have everything slabbed. I wanted albums stuffed with fat silver dollars. that's what I got.

AFAIK the only real OGP for bullion is the so-called monster boxes; some people do collect those, but they are unaffordable for the average collector, not least because each of them contains about $15K in silver.

I've never been into ASEs much. I've gotten one for my birthday several years ago, and I'm thinking of maybe getting another to put into my 7070, but I probably wouldn't even try to collect the series. I very much understand the people who do collect them, though - it's no different from any other series if you have the money, and the design is (used to be?) pretty.

My notes show 52 business Strikes (Bullion, UNC, Enhanced Uncirculated) + 49 Proofs ( Proof, Rev Proof, Enhanced Rev Proof) in the Type 1 series also. . .

Type 1 and Type 2 Business Strikes -- through 2024-- total 75 - - - if one considers bullion ASE's the TPGs encapsulated and labeled with mint marks in parentheses-- from 2011 to 2021 -- as unique. [ See Mojojo's Checklist ].

As an ASE collector, I'm hoping the era of multiple mint bullion production -- and the parentheses slabs that came with it -- is in the rear-view mirror. I'm glad that slabbing practice wasn't in effect from 1988 to 1998 when West Point and San Francisco were striking bullion coins.

Thanks to all for an interesting and informative discussion on the ASE series. By the way, Mojojo's checklist tallies a total of 144 ASE through the end of 2024. Eight more coming in 2025.

Always a new gimmick to ensnare the collector. I personally don't buy into to slabbed bullion from other mints so I feel my collection is complete save the 1995 w and the 2008 w reverse of 2007, and future issues.

that's why I ended my collection at 2021, basically.

here's my list...

one of each:

bullion, 1986-2021....... 36 coins
S-mint proof........ 4 coins (2017, 18, 19 & 20)
proof, incl. 95-W...... 36 coins (no 2009)
burnished, incl. 08/rev07....14 coins (no 2009 or '10)
special issues*........ 11 coins

101 coins total

(*coins from sets or special standalone issues:
2006-P rev.proof
2011-S unc.
2011-P rev.proof
2012-S proof
2012-S rev.proof
2013-W enh.unc.
2013-W rev.proof
2019-W enh.rev.proof Po2N
2019-S enh.rev.proof
2020-W proof V75
2021-W rev.proof type l & ll set

it was the issuing of those last 4 coins that soured me and caused me to stop buying silver eagles. to me, it was a good thing they changed the design, it was an exit point that I gladly utilized. I won't go on about my US Mint/ASE beef. this list is here just to explain my ASE collection.)

i have the OGP for all of the sets, special issues and burnished coins. I have the OGP for the '93 & '94 proofs, but not the rest. I really don't care for all the boxes and packaging. my only interest is the coins themselves. I have the 2012 & 2013 set coins slabbed. I have several burnished coins slabbed, various dates. .....aaaand i'll just stop here...
