It's a very collectible VAM. I'd love to have one this nice -- my 1A2's and 1A3's are all VF or worse, and most have been cleaned or damaged or whatever.

If the VAM was mentioned in the title I would be inclined to be more interested in interacting.

Agreed! It looks like OP has fixed that now, though.

AU55 is not a net grade. It would be an accurate grade if the coin was not damaged.

I don't see the damage that others are claiming apart from some rim dings. Even a rather conservative grader such as myself would not details this for a few rim dings. What exactly are people seeing here that makes this coin deserve the body bag?

To me, the rim nicks are distracting and it's a "details" coin in my eye if not at PCGS.

What exactly are people seeing here that makes this coin deserve the body bag? A body bag is different from a details grade, and I don't think anyone made the claim of a body bag. That is when a coin returns in a flip upon refusal of encapsulation by the TPG. I see heavier scratches that are large enough to be distracting. The eagles chest through wing, left of olive leaves are a couple major ones to note. They appear to be fresh too. The obverse is slightly smoother so I can understand why they could have looked passed the reverse scratches. But the rim dings are unacceptable at any straight grade. This is not a rare VAM so there is no rarity grace to factor in this scenario.

There are a few nicks on the obverse rim. This coin was struck with sinking, cracking dies and there is a good bit of rim finning. I'm with @paralyse - this is a nice VAM-1A, nicer than many I've seen. Those nicks would not dissuade me from purchase and are not likely to be a factor in pricing. Looks to be 1A2, just before the terminal stage. Edit: Quote:This is not a rare VAM so there is no rarity grace to factor in this scenario. While perhaps not an exceptionally rare variety, it is extremely popular and will bring a premium.

Sorry, poor choice of terms on my part. It may not be a rare VAM but PCGS has only graded 20 higher. I consider it more of a conditional rarity as like I said I see very few of these at XF and above.

AU details, can't see this one with a straight grade.
