Help With Coin Attribution: Constantine Or Constantine II?

prsferreira Valued Member Brazil 146 Posts	Posted 12/04/2024 3:23 pm Dear Colleagues, I am seeking assistance with the attribution of a coin that has left me uncertain whether it belongs to Constantine or Constantine II. The reverse and legend do not appear for Constantine in the RIC. However, the coin seems to be from Thessalonica (exergue SMTS), and I couldn't find a corresponding obverse-reverse combination for Constantine II from this mint either. Has anyone encountered a similar piece or have insights into this particular issue? Any suggestions or references would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! With Constantine I the GLORIA EXERCITVS reverse is usually paired with the CONSTANTINVS MAX AVG obverse. This is just CONSTAN-TINVS AVG. There are some early Constantine II issues of Antioch with matching legends, so that might be a starting point (I can't find any with the two standards reverse, but they might be out there.) Also possible this is an imitative issue or even a mule.
