First day of release?
5th December 2023.

I believe the One Dollar coin is the only denomination that will be released into circulation in 2023.
All other denomination coins will be released throughout 2024.

I have no idea how many working dies bearing a 2023 date were made,
but the practice in the past is that those dies bearing a 2023 date will be used until they all meet the end of their working life.

So....... do you think a 2024 dated standard $1 Charlie will be in the 2024 Unc and Proof sets?
Are the next years Unc and Proof sets normally released in Nov-Dec?

Of those questions I know not of the answers.

My opinions are as follows:
First question : yes.
Second question: I don't know, unfortunately.

Perhaps another CCF'er may be able to answer them better than myself.

They normally start making Unc and Proof sets in July the year before, so they can be ready to ship for Christmas, but these are not normal times. I seem to recall they'd previously made a commitment not to make any 2024-dated QE2 coins, but they didn't have a Charles III portrait to work with until a couple of weeks ago, and they seem to have reconsidered that position. According to the Mint's FAQ page, which dates from 5th October 2023:

Quote:
When will the Royal Australian Mint cease using the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Effigy?

The Royal Australian Mint will continue to use the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse until May 2024. Some of the planned early 2024 coin releases have already been approved with the memorial obverse.

I would presume the 2024 Unc and Proof sets are included in those "already been approved" coins. If they had stuck to their business-as-usual production schedule, then these coins were probably already finished, boxed up and sitting in the warehouse awaiting release when the new portrait was announced.
