Hello guys! It's been a while. Does anyone know anything about these coins? They were given to employees at a small town phone company.

Though it may have been given as a gift to commemorate some event/milestone, the coin itself is not a commemorative coin. It is a bullion coin - an American Silver Eagle. They are struck annually by the US Mint.

No, this is not a commemorative coin. It is a one dollar coin issued by the mint But don't go and use it as a spender though it is a collectable or investment coin. with the silver sontent it is worth its weight of silver at current spot prices.

The rest of any information you already got from Commem above.

It's an ASE (American Silver Eagle). It isn't issued as a dollar, it's sold as a piece of bullion, 1 ounce of 0.999 fine silver (just like it's marked). Thus the value tracks to the daily price of silver plus a small premium.

There are also fancy finishes made for and sold to collectors.

It has a $1 Value because it is also - technically (in law) - a coin and coins have a marked value (except for the Brits and their idiotic sovereigns, but, TMI).
