Hello! I am RickyO from Argentina. Although Argentina and Chile are neighbours, coins from Chile aren't really common where I live, because I live in eastern Argentina and Chile shares a border to our west. Coins from Argentina itself, Uruguay, Peru, are fairly common, but it was a nice surprise to find two beautiful coins from Chile I'd like to share with you today.

First one is 20 cents from 1878:

Second one is 1 peso from 1917:

I hope you like them as much as I do! Do you have some South American coins in your collection? Are South American / Latin American coins easy to find where you live?

RickyO, those are two very nice Chilean coins - thank you for sharing them with us!
Coins from South America are not frequently encountered here in the US. I do have a few, but most of my collection from south of the US is Spanish colonial or Mexican War of Independence. Picked up this 1813 Morelos SUD with Oaxaca counterstamp recently for a really good price last week.

Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

That's a beautiful coin! I have never had a coin with a counterstamp! I sm so curious about it. I am trying to understand if the 20 cents from Chile is dated 1878 or 1873 the 3 over a 2! It's difficult to get it right. I also completed a set of Uruguayan coins, I will post them soon! The least valuable coin was the hardest for me ti find! Cheers and thank you for your kind answers! I am so happy I joined the Community!
