A few days ago I was in desperate need of a break from job hunting so I decided to organize my collection. After 2 hours at the dinner table I needed to move around. Before I could stand up something caught my eye out the back door........ I was being watched! Any other stories out there about being surprised while coin collecting?

He sure looks tuckered out, was it a long climb up there? He must be "nuts" about coins LOL John1
( I'm no pro, it's just my humble opinion ) Searched 6.5 +/- Million Cents Since 1971

Looks like he is splooting! Must be hot out there! I caught this fella watching me earlier this spring. The photo taken through a screen door, hence the printed look...

Lol, I wonder if I could train them, we have 4 regulars, to sort by date and condition when roll hunting. That's easily worth a bag of walnuts.
That one we thought was incredibly lazy. We put bird seed on our deck railing running 4-5' in length once a day. We have watched that one belly crawl the entire length eating. Once she stood up we realized not lazy, very pregnant.

My wife doesn't like me feeding them but I really enjoy feeding the little guys around us. One thing about squirrels is they always will recognize the face of the person who feeds them and is nice to them. I use to always give them non salted peanuts out of my hand. They would come up to the porch railing where I sit and get a peanut from me. My wife gets scared of them and thinks they are going to attack. I usually only give them 3 peanuts and that is the limit. They have to eat other foods on their menu. Sometimes I will give them apples. I think the squirrels appreciate what you give them. Now if they could only protect my coins from a robber I would be all set.

This reminds me of that old Far Side cartoon about the irrational fear of being watched by ducks: I guess in your case it would actually be sciuridaephobia.

lol I miss seeing the Far Side comics. Far Side and Calvin & Hobbes had me grabbing at the new paper every weekend growing up. It took an act of congress to make me read in school but apparently comics were imbued with a strange form of magic allowing me to read for hours.

Yep! The holy trio of Far Side, Calvin and Hobbes and Bloom County. They don't make 'em like thye did back in the 80s, that's for sure (although Pearls Before Swine and Frazz are pretty good).

yep. I sit on the floor at my footlocker as I mull over my stuff; the cat is ever-present and always has an eye on me. I've gotten used to it. behold, felinus domesticus observus: it's when he becomes felinus domesticus interruptus that we begin to disagree.

Status Update: The squirrels, which are all siblings, initially responded well to the training due to the emerging leadership of the eldest, the pregnant one. Since she was one of the few that had not been named yet she is now known as Boss Lady. With that said, things have now taken a turn for the worse. The picture below shows that Boss Lady is now so pregnant if she was to lay down she would actually roll away. It turns out she is quite good at laying her arms and head on her stomach to eat just as she did with the crawl method. Her lack of mobility resulted in her siblings reverting back to heathen form so we have had to pause their training.

At first I thought all was lost but then it happened, the return of a long lost sibling! The squirrel on the left was the first to receive a nickname on account of her having a completely hairless tale for the first year of her life. Due to the opossum tale she was dubbed Slim. For some reason Slim disappeared several months ago and was not seen again until a few days ago. During her absence many rumors circled as to what caused it: neighbor squirrels making fun of her tail so she ran away, the golden eagle got her or maybe the local osprey, and some even claimed she embarked on an ancient squirrel right of passage quest. Apparently she was able to find a few tuffs of tail fur along the way. We may never know why she left but its obvious she has returned to be by her sister's side once again. Her brothers aren't too happy about it though because she seems dead set to keep the peace. I am hoping that Slim remains after Boss Laby is back to 100% because I think she would do well leading preservation efforts. Her newly found tail fur look suspiciously like a Q-tip and her movements are always calculated and precise.
