Agree, the serial number is not fancy so most likely a spender.

I've been collecting special serial numbers for about 30 years & special serial numbers are tough to find. For 7 digit # (10,000,000 runs) the odds are 1 in 1000 of finding a 3/4 digit radar.

Ever since social media came about I have heard a lot of terms about fancy serials that make absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. I treat special serial numbers like errors - the # (& error) should wow you! Everybody will agree that the # is unusual. If most collectors don't see it, then it is not special. There is nothing special about MC09111222. Here's a thread on radars, repeaters & ladders on the World Paper Money & Banknotes section of the forum:

On a side note:
There may be a few collectors who collect what I call "fancy #" b/c the serial combo tickles their fancy. I would consider birthday # notes (02021976 for Feb 2nd 1976), area codes, or emergency codes (0091100) fancy b/c they attract a much smaller niche market (fancy to some but under the radar for most). So if that # is fancy to you, keep it (just remember its $50 & not small change however!). A lot of collectors I know mostly collect special # (& errors) of low denominations (but that's entirely up to you).

I created a link as a guide to the main special serials:

Hi all,
Thanks for the comments and the help. The only reason I search 50's is due to noodling as that is what the ATMs give out when I go to get coins out of the banks. I just check them prior to changing them for coins.

Thankyou walk2dwater, your advise and teachings are appreciated, and have taken that info on board.

If that were 09112001 perhaps a big find due to the specific date but otherwise you would only have only 2 triples together. Only 0.051% of 8-digit numbers have this combination. On a US $1 note these might sell to a casual collector for say $5-6. However on a 50 you lose most of the casual collectors since the base value of the note is likely too high for all but valuable finds so I would look more at the lower denomination notes for the non rare finds like the minor fancy serials. Of course if you found all the same digits 11111111, ladder such as 12345678 or one of the other more rare types that may be different. Further you will have to gauge (generally) the interest of fancy serial WORLD note collectors vs USA collectors as to what they will and wont buy in comparison.
