I really like that this coin maintains an attractive silver, somewhat lustrous appearance. The dentils on the edge are in great shape. No hairlines to point to cleaning also helps. These seem difficult to grade given inconsistencies, especially in strike quality.

I give it a guess - VF 35 just shy of an XF40 grade. Still learning these coins, but really like them.

I wait 48 hours to reveal what NGC called it. I gave a couple hints--the dentils and luster/surface matter.

It doesn't appear to be a dug coin from the ground, nor does it exhibit any salt water "shipwreck" look, and there seems to be a fair amount of luster on the shield side the pillar side seems more subdued and more likely worn, the edge is always a big deal for me on EAC coinage this one is tough to tell, the edges have areas that look damaged or "squeezed" while I don't see any large rim dings that protrude into the design area so I am kind of ignoring that area. Good to know that is a section to pay more attention to.

This one should be good. After re-examining it - maybe it goes XF/AU? I just don't see it unc at all, and I hope it's not detailed.

Thanks for this one Adam, these coins are fascinating and I want to really learn more on grading them. This helped.

Would you mind telling us what a coin like this one is worth? I don't see any similar ones for sale. Only ship wrecked recovered ones and none as nice as this one.

Thanks, Westcoin. The globes are pretty sharp on this one--the high areas only have slight wear. There are patches that signify a weaker strike, but I agree, these are a difficult series. This coin turns 275 this year--it looks better than we all will at that age.

For my eye, it looks a bit too worn on the high points of the design, both sides, for an AU-55 grade.
That is despite the strike inconsistencies that this series of coins may have.
