I have 6 rolls of 2004 P and D Texas State Quarters my mother order from the mint back in 2005 or 06. There are 3 rolls each mint mark, and 6 encapsulated in a round plastic case. I just opened the box it was ship in today. Should I open the rolls of quarters to search them for errors? Or am I suppose to leave them in their rolls untouched? Thanks for your time

I will look first on different site as Variety Vista, Wexler Double Dies.com or Coneca site to know if are some varieties, or errors for those years. Then I will take the decision to open and see what I have. On my memory call, as I study the Quarters for those years we do not have RPM or DDO nor DDR.

Sometimes unopen original rolls from Mint will be more valuable then open roll and nice mint coins. As I say no varieties are know at this time. Probability to find one is very mince, because hundreds of thousands of those coins was already check and study. By my book me personally back in 2005-2006 I look at about 4=P and 5-D bags of those quarters and nothing find. Same Observe Design, no DDO, DDR or RPM. No off-center or clips. (one bag is 1000 coins)

Up to you to take the call and the decision. Hope help. This it is My own personal opinion.

The individual coins all have value in mint state uncirculated conditions, however the value shown as an example in the NGC graded pricing guide is not yet enough to really warrant grading them at this time except in the very top grades which are very uncommon even when pulling from mint state rolls. Too unlikely to pull the top grades that would make it worthwhile to do so. https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...quarters/88/

So at this moment I'd be inclined to keep them in the rolls until such time that mid level mint state coins are higher value than grading fees. or can sell as mentioned as a unsearched roll for a premium.

You could certainly look for errors, such as one was struck on an elliptical planchet, or the typical things like clips, Struck Through Grease, a rotated reverse, off center, missing a clad layer or some other unusual finding as there arent any real varieties like the 2004 Wisconsin (high/low leaf), but this would also make them into essentially pocket change so I'd probably only search errors once your ready to search for the highest condition example.

Edit: The 6 in capsules you can certainly search without issue.

I would keep them in their OGP Rolls for now. Wait for the value goes up. The longer you wait, the less there will be of OGP quarter roll sets. That is what I'm doing as well. But mine aren't as old as yours are.

On those rolls, the first and last coin of the roll was expose to the environment and has the first step of toning.

Also, those aren't rolls from the U S Mint. They were packaged by a company called World Monetary Reserve and sold at greatly inflated prices. If I remember correctly, the rolls are only 25 coins each.

jgfindring, nice catch on the marketer of these rolls.

They and other companies make their money by making the packaging look "special", promoting them with propaganda, and hyping the coins at the time they are issued.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
