Hi,

I live in a 1811 schoolhouse in Pennsylvania. Before 1811 there was a barn on the location in the 1700's. While metal detecting in my front yard with my kids we dug up two heavy coin shaped metal pieces with little to no marks remaining on them. I'm trying to learn more and get some ideas about them. Any thoughts would be wonderful to help us learn more. Here's the one that is clipped on an end. The other is the same size and similar weight but not clipped. I'd be happy to share pics of it as well tomorrow.

Many Thanks,

Blake

As above plus do not hold coins in your hand. Place flat
on a neutral colour and shoot head on. Also crop your photo.
This helps us help you.

Thank you for these tips and replies!
I won't have a weight right away, I'll need to find a way to measure that. However the size is 28.5 mm.

Thanks!

I'm not really seeing any evidence that it was actually a coin. Not everything roundish and metallic was intended for use as money.

This appears to be made of lead.
