I have 1964 Jefferson nickels in my collection Yes it will be interesting to see how successful it turns out to be.  I guess their way of thinking is that by using the $1 coin, and by making them so common, people won't be interested in hoarding them whereas if it had come out as another coloured $2 coin then I think that they might have had a problem!

Nice idea but won't work. I give it 48 hours after release before the first rolls start appearing on E-bay at twice face value. Given it is also the first coloured $1 coin will make it more desirable to collectors. And with the prices all coloured coins are fetching people will stash 10-20 newies away just in case there is a profit down the track. I also find it odd that only 6 months ago there was talk of COVID-19 accelerating us towards a cashless society and shops even refusing to take cash (and the charity shops refusing item donations) and yet the Mint announces 24 million coins when cash is supposedly on it's way out.  |

That is exactly what they said about our 2015 and 2018 Anzac and Armistice coins here and within nanoseconds they were on Trade Me being sold at $3 each for a 50 cent coin.
They limited everyone to 1 roll of 20 coins each and imposed a unnecessary Postage and handling fee on top, yet within nanaoseconds, you could buy boxes of 50 rolls ($500 worth) for like $2700 on Trade me.
Big rules, no enforcement, if also they wanted people not to collect it, why make it look pretty? The mintage is good at least and people have a reasonable chance of getting one.

I guess that it's a bit of a no win situation for the mint as on one hand they have to make the coin stand out in your change so that it will be noticed but on the other hand people might like the look of it and keep it as a novelty. I suppose they're hoping that the novelty will soon wear off though, especially if you're seeing so many of them. We still see lots of $1 2014 ANZAC coins in circulation and they had a mintage of around 22 million. It will be interesting to see what the mintage will be for 2020 and also for how many years they will be produced. They seem to be inferring that it will be 4.5 million for the remainder of this year. Q: How many Donation Dollars are going into circulation?

I'm thinking probably not so people don't want to put one of each colour away. Again a bit like the $1 ANZAC coins which were minted over five years ... they all look the same except for the date!

These coins would be good to donate to a charity organisation of the donor's choice, singly, in multiples or in bulk.
They could be then exchanged by the charity at a bank, to be put back into circulation, to be donated again.
A gift to a charity that keeps on giving. That's has to be a good idea, when so many have lost their jobs, due to CV-19.
Interesting, but hardly worth collecting, with 25,000,000 to be issued.
I would much rather donate these, than collect them,
because that is not in the spirit of why they were minted and placed into circulation in the first place.

Well, I bet there will be people who go to their bank soon and ask for $1 rolls/bags, will search for the Donation Dollar in them, and then offer them on ebay.

What I like about the RAM is they have been coming up with innovative ideas vs. just commemorating every time HM the Queen sneezes...like the RCM seems to. Well, a good stolen idea. The RM produced an A-Z coin hunt in 2018 so I believe it pre-dates the RAM A-Z coin hunt. https://www.royalmint.com/coinhunt/And boy, are those suckers hard to find, especially in Oz.
