Another new acquisition -- this time a bond from Middle States Coal & Iron Mining Co. in West Virginia. I really like the intricate mining scene.

@GregAlex - since I am from West Virginia I noticed your bond from Middle States Coal & Iron Mining Co. I am not familiar with the name (there were hundreds of companies so that is not a big deal) so I tried to look them up at our Secretary of States database - nothing. I looked in my Coal Scrip Catalog - nothing. Then I went to google and found nothing other than similar bonds.
Perhaps I missed something but I wonder if this company ever got off the ground (or went under it - pardon the pun).

@joewobblie They did issue stock in the early 1900s, so they definitely existed. But I don't know much more than that.

I found it! An archived record from 1903.

I couldn't tell you where these mines existed, but probably in Nevada where the company was incorporated. You may notice the company title is way off center. This was originally a "blank" certificate with an empty center block where the printer could add text. The "California Mines Corporation" was printed with "LIMITED" in small letters underneath. Apparently that wasn't good enough, so the printer went back and added "Ltd." at the end of the company title. Not very artful but it worked.

It looks like it was already off center to the right, that certainly did not help!

A couple new ones were waiting for me when we returned from our Christmas trip. United Rico has a vignette that is new to me.
