I agree with Icutler on this. This is how I started filling albums years ago by buying rolls for common dates and then upgrading later. This is something to think about.

I agree with MisterT. Only value is the silver and numismatic value of the coins.

Congratulations on the half dimes. You moved real fast on the seated dime collection. Keep it going and you'll be done and on to other endeavors, curious what that will be.

Update- just got my 1947,1949 and 1951 PDS mint sets in original packaging. I just lack 1948 and 1952 mint sets. I just lack 1942 and older for proofs sets. I'm going to have to settle for these in the capital holders. The journey continues.

I've cracked a few slabs to put in my albums. I just can't get my self to crack the key dates that I have slabbed such 1922 no D, 1909 S VDB and 1937D 3 legged Buffalo nickel. I just put a label in the spot with the grade of the coin.

Thanks for the information. As far as the Totally Irreverent comment, it is irrelevant to some people. I've heard some aren't buying the silver proofs because the increased price. Not everyone on this forum are as fortunate to afford these. Some might said that it is expensive to collect coins which it is depending on what you collect. You have some new people starting to collect coins by filling Harris albums with circulated coins.

The US Mint raised the price in February from $105 to $130. Price of silver was 22.29 an ounce at the time of the price increase. The price has gone up over $1.00 in 24 hours and sits at $25.29 as of this posting. If it continues to climb, no telling what the mint will do with price when they come out later this year.

The more obvious the doubling is what increases the value. The doubling is either caused by a bad die or the coin was struck twice. The issue with your coin is that it's kinda hard to tell by the glare. I hope this helps.

I've had a detecter for 10 years and only used twice. I'm gonna go back to the small town I grew up in. I got a buddy there that said there are a lot of old abandoned house in town and out in the country. I'm hoping that a long time ago some silver fell out of their pockets when getting out of the their cars.

My experience is that I've made a majority of my silver and older coin finds in customer wrapped rolls. I my bank deals with Brinks and I haven't found anything in 2 boxes of Ike's, quarters and half. I've gotten to know a few inside tellers and the set aside strange looking coins in their words. They also set aside customer rolled coins.

I agree with John1, just go into the bank and ask. That's what I did and they give me a box of each denomination when ever I need them. I dump at my wife's bank which is different than mine.

SD Bullion offers military discount. You pay the cheapest price such a if you buy 1 ASE, you pay the price as if you buy 500. I just had to fax my DD214. I just log in and all the prices are set at the lowest price.

It's just like what wood workers say about clamps, you can never have enough clamps. I can never have enough silver. I buy 10oz bar a month. I also collect a lot of series such as Pandas, Koala, kookaburras, marvel series etc.

I've melted silver and poured into bars. If your melting silver that is not .999 silver such 90% coins, you have to use nitric acid and distilled water. I used 1/4 acid and 3/4 distilled water. You definitely need glove and mask. Once all the metal is dissolved, your left with a paste at the bottom that is the silver. You need to rinse the silver multiple times with coffee filters to remove the impurities. Let it dry and your left with .999 powder. Now it is ready to melt.
