1998 - Mauritius 25 Rupees

These series of notes were withdraw the shortly after they were released.

The order of the languages on Mauritian notes had always been English, Tamil, and Hindi.

This was based on order in which settlers arrived at the African island. The 1998 notes were issued with the language order in English, Hindi, and Tamil. There were nation wide protests at this change. The governor of the bank and the deputy governor resigned. These notes were withdrawn and destroyed. New notes were issues shortly after with new governors signatures and the normal language order.

I have missed out on many days of this, I had intended to contribute notes for every year so far (French, Lithuanian and Bulgarian particularly) but for not having good photo's saved on my computer (lots of notes I have photo's of just one side of the note etc) But today I took a few and optimised them so at least should contribute a few to this thread.

1995 - Sri Lanka P-111 1000 Rupees

This banknote from the island nation of Sri Lanka commemorates Raja temple elephant in full costume.

Raja participated at the annual Esala procession in Kandy for around 50 years and was the sacred casket bearer of the final Randoli perehera for 37 years. Raja died on July 16, 1988 at the age of 75.

As the largest animal on land. Elephants are a popular theme on Asian and African banknotes.

Let me point out the obvious - there must have been some sort of a mix-up with ShareBear's images for 1996. Nonetheless, it's interesting to see how many scenes from rural life they managed to include in the design
