Hi all,

First of all, I appreciate this is kind of advertisement and therefore probably in the wrong board. It is also a post interested in determining HOW exactly these errors came to be however so I can possibly amend the listings. I have a few similar to these NOT listed currently, some in my private collection in fact and so would be very interested to hear what people think about them.

I would be particularly interested to see what people have to say about the £1, 50p and 20ps on steel planchets... would these be due to striking on blanks for other UK denominations or possibly a foreign blank?

I will be at my parents this weekend so will have scales at the ready!

I think all have been described correctly but I would of course love to know more. If anything is wrong, please let me know. I am fairly sure all are listed correctly.

Thanks in advance! Again, apologies if seen as advertising.. I guess it is, but I would like to know more about these too!

201464491745 - Looks like a hammered 50p (to make it round) but not sure why it's struck on steel? It could be a 50p struck on an uncoated steel 2p.

201464488923 - Same as above really, looks to be a 20p struck on an uncoated steel 1p.

201464485662 - As described.

201463611487 - I could be wrong here but that could be a die adjustment error, but it's strange that the centre is struck but not the out rim. You've said that it's an unstruck outer ring but the beads are struck with the rest of the design, so if it were unstruck there shouldn't be any beads? This one is a difficult one..

201463607072 - As described.

201463600351 - As described, although the flan could have ruptured upon being struck instead of being struck with the chip missing. Either way a nice error.

201463174386 - As described.

201463177352 - As described.

201463604915 - I'm torn with this because you've got this from a reputable source, but in all honesty it points to a fake? Weak strike, bad edge lettering, thinner and underweight, also the prevelance of fakes among £1 coins..

I hope any of that is helpful, also drop me an email if you ever want to talk about UK error coins! Not many people to talk to about it haha

Also, to answer your first question, it's much more likley that the blanks being used are just the incorrect denominations as opposed to foreign blanks (as common sense would suggest) however I've seen a few UK decimal coins on foreign flans so it's not uncommon. Although on these it was more obvious what they were due to weight/composition etc.
