I went back to a 1903 farmstead I have hunted once before and only found a boat load of Lincoln Memorials the first time, oh, and a clad dime. I figured a 111 year old site had to hold more than just that and boy was I right. I did not detect in or around the old barn the first time but that is where I headed first.

After about 30 minutes of stomping down weeds and looking for snakes while detecting around the outside and pulling a few more stinkin Lincolns and a couple of clad quarters out of the ground I ventured inside the barn. I was in there for about 15 minutes when I got a strong but choppy signal under the the wooden floor that one of the stalls had. I stepped on the boards and 2 of them were loose. when I pulled one aside I found this.

Needless to say I was very surprised to find that I had found my very first coin cache after 6 years of detecting. Here is everything I dug for the day. Junk, some of which will go to the scrap yard at the end of the year, $2 in clad, and $5.30 face in silver Roosevelt dimes & Washington quarters.

Fun! By the dates, it looks like someone was squirreling away silver at the advent of clad coinage.

That is a really nice find. I've never found a coin cache before, so I know how rare these things are. Makes you wonder if someone forgot about, or passed away before they could tell a family member it was there.

I did not see any, but that does not mean they were not there.
