Hello, I am a new collector and I was wondering if there is anyone or any site that actually wants to help people like me learn about this hobby who will not belittle me and make me feel stupid. So far all I have found are people that just make me feel stupid I stead of helping me learn what I need to know to be successful.
I am particularly interested in collecting error coins, but all I can find for info and pictures to compare with are extreme cases and usually usually I can't even find what I am looking for.
I would like someone who is honestly interested in sharing knowledge and helping someone learn to reply to this.
Thank-you very much

Sounds like you finally came to the right place. Just ask any questions about the coins you have, add pictures of the obverse, reverse, and then a close up of the area you are questioning and people on this forum will be glad to help you and give you information!

to the CCF

You've fortunately come to the right place here at the CCF.

We are a family friendly forum loaded with top notch experts who give freely of their time and knowledge without judgement.

Echoing what Marve65 said - post one coin per thread with in focus images and a description of what you think is going on. Then our experts will help.

Yes, , a great place to learn from!

One site among others for errors and similar is error-ref.com, and for things like varieties, varietyvista.com can help. Although extreme errors are quite exciting and yes, rare, there are far more "minor errors" to be found in circulation that could be worth a few dollars on up depending on what one has. One also has to be mindful of what appears to be an error but turns out to be some sort of post mint damage which we here on the CCF see all the time. There is another phenomenon called paridolia where we see something (on a coin) that is not really what we think it is.

And no, you are not stupid, you observe what you see and try your best to describe what you are seeing, and we here on CCF can point you in the right direction as to what you are looking at, as we can compare what error you are looking at to legitimate errors we may have knowledge in.

Do be aware that the ramp for error coins is quite steep. To figure out the differences, you need a lot of knowledge about the minting process so you can tell what could and could not occur during the striking of a coin.

At least at first, 99.94% (Ivory soap certain) of what you THINK is an error is PMD (Post Minting Damage). Just accept it.
