Found it on a permission hunt at an old plantation farm in Maryland. Any advice on how to make it more appealing? I can make out King George and the Virginia stamp on the back. I've soaked my Roman coins in Olive oil with little success.

Welcome to the forum V, and congrats on the old coin! Personally, I never use olive oil on any of my coppers anymore, it does more damage than good. Olive oil is acidic and always tends to darken my coin making it difficult to see detail. I use the petroleum jelly/q-tip roll instead.

Fantastic find. Unfortunately because it's copper the coin is already corroded beyond repair . I have never tried this but what if you soaked it in Verdi-Care for a few weeks in a tightly closed glass jar . Or you can try to find out what museums use to clean and protect their ancient finds . I would Google it . Either way ,the coin should look better than it looks now .

Nice oldie and one we don't see in my area. Would be great if the soil was kinder to the coppers. Thanks for posting!
