Moodi, I use an iPhone 7+ and a set-up similar to Earle42's. I use a ring light similar to the one below - highly recommended. Two recent pics:

For me the trick is getting the images down to the right size (about 220kb). I take a photo with my iPhone 7. Then I send it via WhatsApp to my tablet, and crop it. Then I send it back to the iPhone and that seems to work. My desk lamp has a "daylight" bulb in it which is slightly blue but gives better colour rendition than ordinary indoor lighting. Soon inheriting an LED desk lamp and am looking forward to what that comes up with. Will share the results...

I plug my iPhone into my PC and transfer the files to it using File Explorer. You should check into getting a goose neck ring light - about $15. The ability to change the light direction and angle is really helpful.

fwiw, I take photos with an iPhone as well and found it easiest to just email them to myself from my phone. Gmail (or just the iPhone mail app?) gives you image compression options when you send photos in an email, so I can transfer the photos to my computer and compress them to the correct size for uploading all in one go.

I use an Android phone with a google account - I just go to Google images and there they are, just have to save them to the desk top for cropping and sizing..

Here are two pics of a recent British one pound coin. The general pic is taken with the phone as close as it'll get to the coin. The second is taken using a Leuchtthurm (I hope I've spelt that right!) clip-on close up lens. The tiny date is from about the 2 o'clock position on the main pic but it recurs all the way round the edge. Lighting was my usual desk lamp with daylight bulb, plus an LED desk lamp, one shining down from the left, the other from the right, so that my head and the light sources formed a triangle with sides about of two feet. Seems to work. Comments would be appreciated...

Yes thanks. I think it was an issue with my mobile internet signal. Everything went glacially slowly for a couple of days, somewhat better yesterday, and normal today. My service provider's tech support also helped, also the advice from here about clearing the cache. Many thanks!
