can someone give me some ideas of what photo equipment sellers use for posting coins for sale on ebay? the cell phone works but not as satisfactorily as I'd like. Appreciate what is used and where to find for reasonable cost. Thanks.

Are you selling raw, slabbed or both? IMO.... If they're slabbed, pic quality isn't as important because I've seen sellers w/ 1000's of sales & terrible pics.

I use a clip-on macro lens for my iPad, plus a little axial light box that I built out of LEGO bricks. You can check out my coin photographs on my ebay link. For less than $10, I think it works really well. This lens looks similar to the one I bought:

Cell phone cameras of the last 3-4+ years are quite capable. I'd ask what you have, but it's really not my business. I've sold a little on ebay over time. Quality photos are of paramount importance.

Brandmeister, can we see a picture of your "axial light box". Would your setup work for photographing slabs?

Axial and slabs don't mix well, unless you can make the light very even such that you can adjust the contrast in postprocessing. I've done this successfully with "pseudo-axial" light by tilting the coin into a wide light source. It's much easier to do this from lighting perspective.

Not unless your slab is the approximate dimensions of a nickel, including thickness.

It's a tiny LEGO box, patterned on a 3D printed axial box article that I found on this forum. The geometry is intentionally very small to optimize for the focal distance of the clip-on macro lens for my iPad. It has a lot of limitations, but for $9 it takes some pretty good pictures of small coins.

Wouldn't the slab plastic badly interfere with right angle light anyway?
