ANA - After the Berlin Conference of 1884-85, Germany established four colonies across Africa. The largest was German East Africa, founded by the German East Africa Company in 1885. Great video (& would be nice to see in the World forum): Some take-aways: -the silver 5 Rupien was heavily counterfeited in India (be careful if you want to buy one) -the Germans took railway cars off the tracks & minted their currency in them (interesting) -the German East African notgeld sometimes gets mixed up in regular German notgeld (like "finding a needle in a haystack.") -all of it is tough to find & can be pricey
