This is on ebay for 37,500 dollars. 223556848396 Edit: Item # link added. Most of us look twice when another 1930 penny turns up on ebay. Most are obvious fakes but now and then a real one appears. This is an interesting one and I've enlarged the supplied pic as best I can to show some detail. Edited by CoinOS 07/07/2019 07:01 am

Whether genuine or fake I wouldn't go near it with a zero like that. Anyway double the price it should be even if it was genuine.

might be just the light hitting the zero Basil, but yeah all 1930 pennies unless verified by professional, are suspect even if encased.

A case of of it what it is, and those who know - know.
I've tried a dozen times to bring this seller to people's attention, and the silence is deafening.
Maybe he is 'special'.

The seller (Carlo) does own a number of genuine high grade 1930 pennies (he wrote an article some years ago in CAB magazine). Personally I'd get them encased by a TPG before selling them if I wanted top dollar and even then is ebay the right outlet for such pricey coins? As for his description I'd be wary of anything described as "genuine" as that is what TPGs put on slabs with problem (cleaned) coins and it looks like either the white prongs of NGC or a cheap generic slab; if NGC then if graded then unless "details" graded the seller should show VF30 or whatever the grade is so NOT showing that indicates it doesn't have a grade.

On screen, this one looks OK to me, except for that little dent near the '3'. It could be an coin alteration. However, in this case, my opinion accounts for nothing. Why on Earth would anyone want to be offering a coin of this value on ebay?, except for advertising purposes, with no intention to actually sell. The seller would need to have to authenticate the buyer. For the buyer, the seller, the coin itself, and it's provenance, all need to be independently verified, before a sale could proceed.

Quote: it looks like either the white prongs of NGC or a cheap generic slab That is PCCB Quote: the seller, the coin itself, and it's provenance, all need to be independently verified This seller takes absolutely no responsibility for what he sells - and the ridiculous disclaimer on all his auctions is proof of that. Quote: this one looks OK to me The symmetry of the 0 is wrong and the coin is suspect.

Quote:Why on Earth would anyone want to be offering a coin of this value on ebay? It happens all the time, esp. the last 10 years or so on ebay Oz. when the Chinese fakes started to appear in numbers. I think the rationale is that a wood-duck will think its genuine at that price and spend their tax refund(lottery win or whatever) on it. Plenty of egs. of Sellers going for the one off big kill with a fake/stolen Coin.

I have to agree with coinOS The last digit of the date '0' looks wrong. (altered)
Whatever the reputation of the slab it happens to be, that reputation also has to be brought into serious question.

I think CoinOS is correct about it being a PCCB slab. I wouldn't call that companies reputation into doubt as it has no reputation
