Australian Coin Collecting Blog - This coin has been struck through an elliptically clipped fragment of another coin resulting in the typical indented area on the host coin. The indent covers about 40% of the surface area of the obverse of the coin. The fragment of the other coin had already been struck and either failed to exit the coining chamber correctly or perhaps contaminated the florin blank supply. Because the fragment was already struck a superb reverse brockage impression is visible in the indented area of the coin.

It seems too coincidental that the elliptical clip indent is aligned in the position it is. Is it possible that the clip became stuck to the die and the indent is as partial brockage?
I have seen similar errors in the threepences (I have one but not as nice as this florin) and my 1952 threepence also has the indented section on the obverse (as with this florin) and aligned perfectly (as with this florin) and at the top of the coin (again as with this florin).
So should the correct term for this type of error be partial brockage error or should it be struck through errror?
Also is this florin a large 6? An error on a variety is doubly interesting
Does anyone else have examples of this error and does the indent align itself or not?

A brockage error is a struck through error... This example was struck through the elliptical fragment of another coin. Elliptical fragments usually occur when a coin was struck off-centre and sheared off by the collar die.
