Two examples of a 1919 penny DDO which appears to have lathe lines on the obverse.

And the lathing is heavier on the areas that have the most doubling.
I'd be interested in what everyone thinks is going on.
Is lathing associated with doubled dies ?
Is this a failed attempt to erase the doubling ?
TIA.

Pretty cool! Probably just a coincidence.

Very nice. Lathe lines are not very common on aussie coins. Must be a coincidence, one would assume a lot of grinding would be needed to get rid of the doubling, not sure they could do targeted grinding either with a lathe. Could be wrong though.

Thanks everyone for the comments.
Its a bit of a mystery.
The lines must have been added after hubbing which is strange.
I'd agree with Airgem, and the lines may not be from a lathe.
Now I see that some lines are not parallel so I guess that means they are not from a lathe.
