It looks to be a lovely MS-63 to me. I say certainly genuine and certainly uncirculated, no doubt about it. Color looks good. Worst case it gets an MS-62.
That's a good score, congrats!

I see no evidence of cleaning. Please elaborate.

Quote: I see no evidence of cleaning. Please elaborate. It appears that someone tried to chemically alter the piece. Whether using acid or some other substance, the remnants are visible on the obverse. Other areas of the surface appear grainy and with irregular texture. That's why I thought it looked cleaned.

This coin has surface issues.

. BH1964, I agree with you 100% regarding the altered surfaces in respect to the obv. My main concern is understanding how this occurred. I'm not sure if you spent the time the go through the entire thread or not, and not to say that makes any difference. No big deal. It is a rather old post I've just revived. It was busted out of PCI holder graded at 63. Adequately soak in acetone. I have updated some photos. The grainy surfaces you see is spotty toning. The fields and elements are quite smooth on both sides. Yes, there are some bag hits and other minor imperfections. The rims are MS in my opinion. The spotty toning is the problem. And why only on the obverse? The reverse is quite bright. Why does this piece have very prominate cartwheeling in all directions on both sides? 1. Why was only one side affected? 2. Environmental or intentional? 3.If environmental, how? 4.If intentional, how. I know that spotty toning is far from desirable 63 to 58 is pretty harsh. Just trying to understand. Thanks for the input.

I will say cartwheel luster can be seen on whizzed, cleaned, or polished coins if a person knows what they're doing. I believe this is a $200 to $300 coin if properly conserved so I would not throw a lot of money at it. I can't answer your other questions but if you have the money to try the NGC/NCS route they may be able to conserve it and get it into a straight-graded holder. Good luck!
