I purchased a coin from an ebay seller in Serbia. It was sent with tracking and I have been tracking it on its path. However, once it left New York it was shipped to Fort Meyers, Florida. Yesterday, I received an update that an unsuccessful delivery attempt was made in Fort Meyers and now the package is back at the Fort Meyers post office awaiting pick up. The problem is that I live in Wisconsin, not Florida. The ebay tracking information has my correct address listed. If I go to my local post office with the tracking information, will they be able to help me? I tried once with an ebay item shipped using their discount ESU tracking and the clerk at the post office told me they couldn't help me because it wasn't USPS tracking. I'm not sure how it works with a foreign tracking number. The one fortunate thing is that is in an inexpensive item, so even if the USPS or ebay won't or can't help me, I'm only out ten dollars. Thanks for any advice before I go to the post office. Paul Bulgerin

Maybe call the Fort Meyers post office directly with the tracking number and have them try to locate the package? But I'm just not sure how helpful they would be on a phone call.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I have printed off the tracking info and plan to go to my local post office tomorrow to see what help they might be able to give me.

Yes, begin with your local post office--sooner the better. Good luck!

Keep in mind that ebay's tracking system mis-reports all sorts of oddities. It's not great software. Try using the link in the tracking to open the browser USPS tracking. Many times ebay stuff gets listed as Out for Delivery even though it's still in transit. I believe they do this to make their ship time metrics look better than they really are. It's also possible that the package wasn't scanned at the final destination, so the software might report the delivery attempt as coming from the last scanned facility.

I agree. I always track directly at USPS. Relying on what ebay reports is hit or miss.

I would just wait a day or two. USPS will sort it out.

I went to my local post office. The clerk ran the tracking number and said it is for a package going to Florida. I would guess that somehow the seller sent me the wrong tracking number. I will contact him. The seller is newer on ebay (49 transactions with 100% positive feedback), so as of now I will mark this as an honest mistake.

I heard back from the seller in Serbia. He sent me the wrong tracking number. I checked the new number and it shows that the coin is in the US.

FWIW - if your tracking begins with ESUS then it was shipped by the seller using ebay Delivery Services. EDS is nothing more than bulk metered mail. USPS will not be able to track, they don't keep that info. Info is only updated on ebay when the barcode/qcode is scanned by USPS routing machines, and USPS sends a dump of those scans to ebay. If EDS says 'Delivered' that can only be produced on ebay by a scan in the destination city. If that city is different than your city I'm certain ebay would side with you, as a buyer.
