Many good points, a few I would concur with. For certain a Presidential dollar coin with a better than average chance for the Chronicles set. As to the matter of Franklin Roosevelt(dime) and John F. Kennedy (half), they were still sitting Presidents at the time of their passing, albeit from different circumstances. So these were Congressional legislation and signed by the incoming President. Would this still occur today with the Presidential Coin Program's law in place? Hard to say.

Again and again NO The "Golden" Presidential dollar and the First Spouse Gold Bullion coin were mandated by law. PUBLIC LAW 109-145—DEC. 22, 2005 https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg...9publ145.pdfQuote: '(8) TERMINATION OF PROGRAM.—The issuance of coins under this subsection shall terminate when each President has been so honored, subject to paragraph (2)(E), and may not be resumed except by an Act of Congress. (emphasis added) Quote: (2)(E) LIMITATION IN SERIES TO DECEASED PRESIDENTS.— No coin issued under this subsection may bear the image of a living former or current President, or of any deceased former President during the 2-year period following the date of the death of that President. When they arrived at Ronald in 2016, the remaining ex-presidents (Carter, HW Bush, Clinton, W Bush, and Obama) were still alive and the program was terminated. After the death of HW Bush, a new law, Public Law No: 116-112 https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th...ill/457/textwas passed to mint them in 2019. Similar legislative action will be required to mint a coin for Jimmy Carter in 2027. Could the new law waive the 2-year requirement? Sure, but ... A new law could even make the extension of the program automatic... a law can say just about anything.

Quote: There will most certainly be a dollar coin.
There will also be a two year wait. Precedents are difficult to change and there is no real hurry. If they wait until the other 2 drop off, they can mint all 3 dollar coins...

Quote: If they wait until the other 2 drop off, they can mint all 3 dollar coins... That is... morbid! I remember people almost hoping for Carter to pass in case they decided the legislation was too ambiguous and could not issue a Regan dollar (no skips).

Given that Carter died towards the very end of 2024.
Do you think the coin will dated 2026 or 2027 if a bill was passed to issue a President Dollar coin?

2027. To issue a coin in 2026 "2 years after" wouldn't allow more than a few weeks on-sale.
But of course, it's actually up to the idiots in Congress to write and pass a bill...

and with all the potential hoopla going on for the semiquincentennial, it would make more sense to drop it in 2027.

Quote: If they do the C&C set, it would be fun if they also issued a 2025 Susan B. Anthony coin for it. Although it being a failure, maybe not so fitting. I think having a Carter dollar along with a "Carter quarter" in a C&C set would be great.

I am not opposed to the idea. Whether it was a winner or loser, the SBA was a significant piece of numismatic legislation signed by Carter. The Reagan C&C got an ASE for that reason. Maybe we can finally get a silver SBA?
