I'm new to GCA, was just wondering if their auctions were live or do you put in your highest reasonable bid and wait? I'm used to Heritage where one would log on and watches each item cross the block and bid when a "watched" items is on the block. If GCA is live please till me how to see each coin cross the block......Thanks Greasy

Go to GCA site and look at their policy and contact them, I don't know.

I always figured that CGA's commissions are lower because they don't have catalogues, auctioneers, etc.

I do not know. I have been tempted to participate, but not enough to actually give it a shot. Maybe some day.

There's no live auction in the sense that you're describing at HA. You just bid and wait, like ebay. The auction end-time is fixed -- either you win at that time or you don't. In a live auction, it could go on forever as long as someone keeps raising the bid.

I've purchased a few coins from GC & as Alpha stated,

.... the only caveat is that bids are not updated in real-time, meaning you have to refresh the page to see where your price stands. A few weeks ago, I was the only bidder on a lower MS toned Proof LWC w/ recut coat FS-402 that was not attributed, scooped it for $20. IMO, you can get some pretty good deals there.

To add, they also have (Buy Now Coins) located right under the Register button on the home page.

I usually place my highest bid 24 hours in advance on GC.
The next Monday, I will find out if I won the auction or not. If not, I shrug my shoulders and move on.

Not live auctions, more like ebay. You will receive "outbid" notices via email but if you want to immediately "check your bid's status" then refresh their webpage manually.

I use GC extensively - there are a lot of good deals and some great deals. You can cherry pick for sure. Not a bunch of last second thumpers like the ebay world.

I started off this way but finally changed up to what NumisEd relayed. Research my price point, place my bid in advance, and check for Win emails later that night.

Personally really like them, quick shipping, lower end on the vig, and friendly contacts.
I swing a metal detector and have a knack for finding dirty old coins.

This is the way I was thinking, heck there's no shortage of coins I'm looking for (classic silver commemorative half dollars) of course for that special one I'll need to refresh the site in-order not to get sniped.

Thanks again......Greasy
