a little help please... When I first saw this I thought of a die chip. What indicates that it's a lamination?

@Liag49 A die chip is a small piece that fell out of the die into which metal flows https://www.error-ref.com/?s=die+chipA lamination (de-lamination), retained lamination, is when a metal flake falls off the coin, usually due to an impurity in the alloy https://www.error-ref.com/?s=retained+laminationOn Seeker_101's posted coin, you can clearly see where the metal flake fell or shifted from on the coin northeast of the flake by the rim. Additional confirmation of this being a lamination issue on your coin is the woody appearance, also due to an improper alloy mix https://www.error-ref.com/?s=wood

Igwt79: Thanks. I do see the area near the rim now. I wish I had started learning this 40 years ago when I still had more active brain cells So nice to have a place to come for good info.
