Quote: Moreover, one of the unique characteristics of DP1 is that the L in LIBERTY does not touch the rim. Don't believe everything you read. This is my DP1 and L is riding the rim.

Thank you @BT. I thought it might be a miskey. IRT not believing everything I read, what are we supposed to do if we can't follow the authoritative references? I can't really see the position of the rim and the L in the coin you posted but I can take your word for it that they are attached. If you have found evidence of a coin that contradicts one of the identifying markers for a variety, it seems like it should be submitted and the references should be updated. Have the reference authors pushed back on your finding and on revising their references?

Have the reference authors pushed back on your finding and on revising their references? The L butting against the rim thing is pretty much guaranteed on most 22D's. Even mint state examples show it. Nonetheless, LOL, I don't think I rank high enough for any of them to care. I recently heard someone is authoring something on 22D's. LONG OVERDUE, it's a project I wanted to do during retirement. All the different sources need to be combined and new information/data/pictures/opinions need to be brought to light to assist collectors. As it stands its scattered into bits and pieces between the internet and books.

I'd say it goes au55, possibly an old cleaning based on the color. Nice looking 22 no d though. Don't see too many with that much detail left.

this is a really nice 22P strong. my grade of AU55 stands. nice pickup for a difficult coin in higher grades. i'd be inclined to bean this one PCGS shows only 87 at AU53 and 94 at AU55. to find an MS example is almost impossible.

Nice coin but I think they gave it a pass on being cleaned. Color seems off.

Very Interesting Topic, I Enjoy seeing the Experienced Numismatists discuss This 1922 No D... IMO The Wheat cent Shown has Very Nice Eye appeal, A Well Struck Off-Center Struck Lincoln Cent. The color seems Vibrant and Believe " Panzaldi " and others have Nailed This coins Forensics, Well Done... Very Nice Example !!! Population Reports Aside, Sweet Coin Congratulations on The AU-53 Grade, Mike

Congrats on the straight grade, color looks iffy to me, but I'd say it is market acceptable on a circulated coin. Hope you got a great deal on it and came out well on a gamble, always fun when we do!
