We sometimes see members post Chinese coin images for ID that are upside down. It's not unusual if not experienced.
We may rely on published books, auction records, and online resources to identify coins.
In the case of some Tibetan coins it can be hard to know which way is up?
If just learning, it's important to get it right to know the date.
In this case when using Numista the reverse of a 5 Sho coin having the cycle and year is shown upside down.

Yes, you come across a lot of weird things on Numista. Do you really think this 1oz gold coin from Cuba has a diameter of 15mm? It must be extremely thick

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces257940.html

Or this 2023 100 euro gold coin from France (31g, 15.55mm):

http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces374932.html

I suspect it is supposed to be a half ounce coin because the 50 euro coin from the same series weighs 7.78 grams with diameter of 22mm

I remember seeing one coin with a diameter of over 2000mm. They missed the decimal point.

I use Numista quite often.
While much is good info, and helps a lot, there are a few times when something is at odds.
So extra steps are needed to get things right before I embarrass myself by publishing wrong data in the coin project album pages.

If you use Numista you should fix those changes when you see them. It's easy to create an account and propose changes.

Numista is kind of a wiki, uses public contributions. It is as bjherbison says.
I only hope they remain an open site. These things sometimes go commercial and close access after collecting contributions. It looks like the most extensive web site now.

Thanks for pointing those out OzLeigh. I've contacted the editor responsible for Cuba suggesting a correction. Will do the same for the French type.

Every catalog has good and bad features, and crowdsourcing has its own issues. As bjh says, everyone can help when they see a mistake.

Yep. It's crowd-sourced. A couple of years back I bought a Titanium variety of a coin at a show from The Royal Mint that wasn't in the catalog. I took pictures and uploaded the data from the show floor. By the time I returned to my hotel room, the coin was added.
