I was hoping someone on here could help verify this coin to PCGS. Thanks in advance. *** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***Edited by thecoinguy1964 01/19/2024 07:57 am

I tried reading the barcode on a couple of online scan reader sites, but the barcode would not read. I am not sure if the issue is with photo or barcode.
I ran another 1924 $20 PCGS MS63 and no issues running the barcode.

I had no problems reading the barcode off this image. However, it only has the cert# 15283120 in it. Usually they have the coin#, grade, cert# and some filler zeroes. Perhaps this generation of slab only had the cert#? Did you not try the cert verify on their site? https://www.pcgs.com/cert/15283120

Quote: Perhaps this generation of slab only had the cert#? This holder would have to be 4.4 version 2005 to 2011 and it reads all the cert numbers. The sticker hologram on the back is not a perfect match for the 4.4 version. Need better photo.

If this is a 4.4 slab then I'm very suspicious. Even the oldest green holders with barcodes have the coin# and grade embedded in them. And what are those sealing nibs I've circled in red? Image on left from the PCGS "museum." Are these seller images and if so, how much $?

There's lots of knowledge on this board, that's why I asked. I'm looking to purchase, but with all the mixed signals, I may pass. I prefer to purchase raw coins I can handle & weigh. I may get some additional pictures, these are seller pictures. Thanks again for all your help.

The font style, bar code, and label all look legit to me, but you need to do what you feel comfortable with. It's ironic that someone would prefer a raw gold coin over a PCGS encapsulated one because of the risk of a counterfeit.

Here is a side by side with a 4.4 gen Saint in a PCGS holder. The Saint hologram is not a match, but I did find a Morgan in a 4.4 with a similar Saint size hologram. I am a pass unless the seller provides better images. This is a common date with many to choose from. If seller price is below melt, another red flag goes up.

I have all my PCGS holders sorted by generation (type) in my cases at home, I'll check mine tonight to see if I can find a match.
The four-post holder is odd -- it reminds me of the thicker "clamshell" holders that preceded the OGH. That alone is highly suspect to me. This would be a hard pass.
Plenty of fish in the gold sea, so to speak, without the questionable authenticity.

I pulled up one of my 4.4 gen slabs and the pin holes are in a different position than the OP coin, and not very noticable.

The closest I have handy is a v.4.0 slab, there are pins and they seem to align OK with the OP image. I never noticed them before and the PCGS museum photo is probably not catching them as strongly as the OP images. So I can't condemn it based on that alone and shouldn't have been so quick to judge. Only reading the cert# from the barcode is still strange. Pics are too blurry to evaluate the coin itself so I would want clearer images before purchasing. Is the price in line with expectations?

Slab is fine in my book. I would comfortably buy this item with no more images needed.

With this coin being widely available in lower MS grades, I simply cannot recommend purchasing it if there are questions. The fact that you're even having to make this post should be enough of a red flag.

Exactly why I like trueview, added layer of security that most people don't think about. Can copy everything but the coin.
