A canvas bag containing 2,000 silver half-dollars struck in 1963 at the Denver Mint and sewn shut there 60 years ago will bring a pretty penny for an elderly northeast Oklahoma woman who received the coins as a gift from her father a half-century ago. https://www.coinnews.net/2023/07/24...-worth-100k/ Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

That's very cool! I've never seen a sealed mint sewn bag of FHD's before. She was smart keeping it sealed for all that time. Now she can sell it for a huge profit.
Errers and Varietys.

Good for the owner. I find the article to be an advertisement for the TV show thats going to host the auction.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.artToo many hobbies .... too much work .... not enough time.

That is the same TV coin show that had a bag of ( I think 1964) halves not too long ago. More of a hype than anything else, IMHO. John1
( I'm no pro, it's just my humble opinion ) Searched 6.5 +/- Million Cents Since 1971

Hype aside, that's a cool event. Interesting that it was shipped by an airline--and evidently made it to the addressee intact (one hopes).

They will probably be sent to NGC and sold as first day issue.

TV coin show with questionable presentations and marketing, a bag of "common" 90% half dollars and thousands of shut-in's at home with too much money watching it all play out on tv. What could possibly go wrong with a scenario like this? You could bid and win it and take it to your local dealer and he MIGHT offer you 25K$ for it. Problem is he'll want to see what's in it before paying you. It's the old "buying a pig in a poke" thingy!

Most interesting! Have to say it, do not hate me, but I would have to open up and take a peek!

Interesting article. As stated by others, I thought the article leaned towards an advertisement. I also thought the anticipated price was high. If all the coins were MS 64, full bell, the PCGS suggested retail price is in the neighborhood of $70,000, about the starting bid. But that many coins hitting the market at one time might crater the price. Good luck to whomever buys them.

That is awesome. I would think the bag would draw a premium as well being a mint sealed bag. Unfortunately, some big dealer will end up with it.

You know whats really sad is that if he father would have invested $1,000 in an S&P Index fund in 1963, that money would be worth around $400,000 today. https://www.officialdata.org/us/sto...endYear=2023It's a real shame that those coins are only worth about $100K (if she's lucky)!

the auction was 3 days ago, can't find results online so I imagine it underperformed the hype
