Just picked up this Morgan inspired 1 ounce 999 silver round at a local gun show, it has a orange/brown tone, pic is it between two silver eagles for contrast. is this tone common for older rounds?

I've noticed a lot of these rounds at my lcs have attractive brown toning or stormy toning with varying shades of dark coloration. My guess is that they are not stored all that well and are more likely to face environmental conditions that would lead to toning and are stored in materials that tone the coins such as plastics because they are not considered numismatically significant.

Sure does happen! In fact, this forum has a loooong thread for toned coins and bullion etc:

A recent example shows a nicely toned Silver Eagle.

Some of us love the toning, and to some collectors it adds value. Not everyone, but some...!
