I recently started my silver Roosevelt dime collection and to start out I found some full torch ones on ebay that were fairly easy to cherry pick. Having all the mint sets from 1959 to present I thought for sure most were full torch. As it got harder and harder to find silver full torch dimes in most years it became evident to me that this was going to be much harder then I thought. Even 1958 Philadelphia full torch dimes are hard to find. This got me thinking that I should look at my mint sets from the 60's- 2000. Wow! Not a single true full torch! Then I looked at price guides. Wow! Pricy! All this said I still believe that this series is overlooked, especially full torch dimes from 1959 to present. what does my LCS have? I went and looked through their clad box of dimes. Didn't find many but came home with ten full torch dimes. I didn't pay more then $.50-$.75 each and the majority are Gems. I just don't think LCS are even looking for them. Now don't get me wrong, there are some that are impossible to find like the 70's but one can hope a few slip ups here and there could result in massive scores if you are looking. Now I'm not saying I'm going to get the $10-$20 PCGS has for some of them in ms64-ms66 but being able to pick these up so easily for such a low price makes me think it's a worthy endeavor and a fun challenge. I plan on grabbing as many as possible over the next couple decades. One day this series will see its day and there will be very few saved. Edited by captainkurt 02/12/2022 3:32 pm

This FT discussion on modern dimes comes up now and then. My question is, starting in what year should we expect FT? John1

Your question has me pondering the fact that we really can't ever expect a FT. Even in the mid 2000's they have significant premiums. This is making me realize they have always been sought after year over year. Thus, my idea is not as easy as I perceived. Now I realize on tough years they were searched for heavily and remaining examples would be rare. Good question! There are so many aspects to this wonderful hobby. It still amazes me that all these years later in starting a new series from the 40's and 50's I have now learned a whole new skill that will effect the way I look at dimes every year when they come out and a new honey hole to always check for that rare cherry pick payday!

I had a full set of silver Roosies (1946-64) all slabbed (NGC/PCGS) MS-66 FT (or FS). I sold them; it took a while. There doesn't seem to be a broad interest in them.
If you have or can get a copy of RareCoin Market Report (the PCGS bi-monthly publication) you can get a general idea of their value. That's the only publication that I know of that prices FT Roosies.

There are two kinds of FT on clad dimes; common and rare.
The price guides don't reflect this very well because there is demand for only a few of the highest grade coins. Some they are readily available in lower grades which normally aren't priced.
The most "common" FB will appear on 8 to 12% and the least common ('74) has yet to be found.
These coins certainly haven't caught on with collectors and it might be because most dates are highly elusive. There is a correlation between overall quality and FB so they should be in demand but you can't collect what you can't find.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

While I have no interest in clad dimes (1965-present) If you can buy gems 66 & 67's with full torch for 50-75¢ then go right ahead and pursue that collection . You never know what the future might hold . You have my approval.

Here is one I picked up today at the LCS. A conditional full band rarity at the moment if it makes MS66. Cost a buck to give it a shot. PCGS has it at $70

Thanx! You all are making me excited! One thing tho. I think it might be satin finish. Do you think that matters? Also, In hand I don't think it could go ms67. I see extremely minor breaks in luster in the high points in the hair, the one chin dot and neck dot. One dot on the torch and rim mark on the reverse. The only way this is worth sending in is if it could be ms67. But does it matter if it's satin? I don't see designation on PCGS.

I believe the satin finish coins came in the uncirculated mint sets, so they may be more common than the business strike coins.

Yep! NGC has a price for the satin coins. $10 in ms66. Swing and a miss! Has to be ms69 for real value.

Everything I have seen this year for dimes hasn't been full torch, seems like they are striking the obverse with the hammer and it's the stronger side this year.
