I lost a friend this week :(

A former member of here CrazyBo (Butch) recently passed away. I know he had issues here, but he was also a nice guy. Yes opinionated, cranky, crude and cantankerous but he was also generous, funny and knowledgeable.

I met Butch not through CFF but prior, he sold me a few coins and we just started emailing. I learned a lot about him and he about me. Even though I never met him in person I got to know him really well. Butch was the one that helped me finish the Lincoln Cents and got me started on Liberty nickels. He was into astronomy so I gave him some photos, he hanged throughout his house and sent me pictures. I was proud that he liked my photo enough to hang them.

Even though Butch was a right wing libertarian and me his east coast lefty friend we still built a relationship. If Butch and I can get along and be friends, any people on the political spectrum should be able to do the same. But this post isn't about that, its about a cranky old man that was my friend and I'm going to miss him

I was checking my phone and I had sent him a few texts. I was really worried when he didn't reply and today his daughter let me know he passed away on Monday. It was a sad day

Aww Geez I'm sorry to hear that. I knew of him, he was quite a prominent poster here, I think everyone who visits here somewhat regularly has read a few of his posts, and those who post regularly have probably got a response from him, especially those on the Lincoln Cent threads.

I recall he had somewhat recently started a "worst type set" collection, a collection only consisting of the worst condition, most damaged, but still legible coins he could find, was looking forward to seeing that come along, I wonder how far he got it...

RIP Man.

I heard about his passing as well. He was a great guy, we'd chat a few times a month or so, and we talked about life and coins. I sold him a few upgrades for his different sets throughout the years and he'd cut me good deals on some die varieties. It saddened me to hear of his passing.

Well now that this has become breaking news, I might as
well add my Two Cents in . Butch and I have been Coin Buddies for a few years . We would ask each others opinions on coins that we bought or were thinking about buying . A lot of times we would send coins to each other just for the heck of it . One of the nicest guys you ever want to know , he will be greatly missed by all collectors .

Yes, he was always very generous and helped me quite a bit, especially with Lincolns, and we shared an interest in Black Beauty nickels as well. In fact, the BB I just had graded/attributed (now on its way back to me) was given to me by Butch. It will be a nice remembrance and one of many.

This is very sad to hear. I have been wondering about him lately.

Crazybo (Butch) is who got me into Canadian coins and taught me a lot about RPMs. I still have a large amount of coins I received from him. Some I bought but most just arrived out of the blue. Yes he was that kind of guy. He'd call em "Care Packages" and always made sure he included something for my wife as well.

I will always remember him as the RPM king and for his constant generosity.

You will always be remembered in my house and in the whole CCF Family. Thanks for the lessons and for sharing your knowledge with the world.

Rip Butch (Crazybo)

The man was literally a saint. Not only does he send "care packages", he would open his house to a stranger. It happened. Some of us witnessed it. Now he's on the great range in the sky, with Jim, sighting in their new bullet pushers. RIP my friend. Then there were 5.

I always knew when I saw the upside down stamps, that it was from him. Here is the last coin he sent me.

This is shocking and saddening to me. Butch and I wrote not long ago.

I thought, as Butch said, he was in the clear from his cancer. Last he sent me was a picture of him enjoying a BBQ in the back yard in celebration of this.

When our CCF family member (now also passed ) Tootallius (Jim) lost his home, Jim was not sure what there was that he could do. Butch graciously opened his home and welcomed Jim into his house. Butch even loaned Jim the money to finance the trip.
Then Jim passed away unexpectedly. And now Butch .
Butch and I had spoken of spiritual things. He claimed Christ as His Savior, so when he was expecting to pass from his cancer, he was at peace knowing he was going to a much better place.

We so oft forget how fleeting this life is.
