Hi everyone, I wanted to share this 1859 cent that my friend dug this out of the ground during our metal detecting hunt yesterday. Any opinions on the grade/variety?

to CCF. Nice find. We have a metal detecting section. John1
( I'm no pro, it's just my humble opinion ) Searched 6.5 +/- Million Cents Since 1971

Did that come out of the dirt or was it encased in something?

Looks to have solid AU+ sharpness. Remarkable find.

The photos don't show enough detail to determine which die pair you have. If you can provide higher resolution photos we should be able to help you, or you can go to Dr. Haxby's website and compare it yourself to the photos there. https://www.vickycents.com/

That's an attractive higher grade coin. Coming from the ground, the thin planchet has avoided the fate of its peers, most of whom come out soaked in corrosion and verdigris. Check the face of the rim and make sure it's free of green and then house it. A day in the field well spent!

The T in cent looks doubled inside left, it is in nice shape for coming out of the ground
