Hans, the 20 cent coin had various varieties especially from 1999 to 2007. You might find a topic on here relating to 20c varieties. After the 5c and 20c, the next with most varieties would be the $1, then 50c, 10c and the $2 coins. Wayne

Quote: Posted 08/18/2006 04:41 am For anyone into collecting varieties here is a little info for you on the 20 cent Platypus 1999-2006.
1) 1999 20 cents - Reverse A - Platypus with small SD, Obverse A - (new) Ian Rank-Broadley bust of the Queen (large), IRB spaced, text style 1 and close to rim. 2) 2000 20 cents - Reverse A - Platypus with small SD, Obverse B - Ian Rank-Broadley bust (smaller than 1999), IRB spaced, text style 2 and further from rim. 3) 2001 20 cents - Reverse A - Platypus with small SD, Obverse C - Ian Rank-Broadley bust (larger than 2000), IRB spaced, text style 3 and closer to rim like 1999. 4) 2001 20 cents - Reverse B - Platypus with large SD, Obverse C - Ian Rank-Broadley bust (larger than 2000), IRB spaced, text style 3 and closer to rim like 1999. 5) 2001 20 cents - Reverse A - Platypus with small SD, Obverse D - Ian Rank-Broadley bust (smaller as in 2000), IRB joined, text style 3 and closer to rim than 2000 but not as close as 1999. 6) 2001 20 cents - Reverse B - Platypus with large SD, Obverse D - Ian Rank-Broadley bust (smaller as in 2000), IRB joined, text style 3 and closer to rim than 2000 but not as close as 1999. 7) 2002 20 cents - Reverse B - Platypus with large SD, Obverse D - Ian Rank-Broadley bust (similar to 2001 (6)), IRB joined, text style 3, similar to 2001 (6). 8) 2004 20 cents - Reverse B - Platypus with large SD, Obverse D - Ian Rank-Broadley bust (similar to 2001 (6)), IRB joined, text style 3, similar to 2001 (6). 9) 2004 20 cents - Reverse B - Platypus with large SD, Obverse E - Ian Rank-Broadley bust (smaller than all previous years), IRB joined, text style 4 (flat top to A). 10) 2005 20 cents - Reverse B - Platypus with large SD, Obverse F - Ian Rank-Broadley bust (large), IRB joined, text style 5, large thinner letters closer to rim, return to pointed A, zeros in date different style. 11) 2006 20 cents - Reverse B - Platypus with large SD, Obverse G - Ian Rank-Broadley bust (similar to 2005), IRB joined, text style 6, close to rim as in 2005, different A and zeros in date to 2005 and previous years.
Some other varieties exist - 2002 in proof has Reverse A with small SD, 2004 in proof has both Reverse A and Reverse B, 2006 in proof has both Reverse A and Reverse B. A silver proof dated 1998 from Masterpieces in Silver Set has same Reverse A and Obverse B as 1999, the base metal unc and proof coin for 1998 has the Raphael Maklouf bust of Queen.
Wayne Found this. Is the list you were referring to Wayne? In any event, I will start collecting these.

Interestingly I have just completed looking at 50,000 5 cent pieces. I found 555 1987 coins, zero high echidnas. I just bought one for $5.00. With the time I have spent looking for one the value of my time to date is 0.01 cents per hour, and reducing because I still haven't found one. Will keep looking though. Hans

I found one last year with a much smaller sample size, but I think I just got lucky, because I haven't found any more since then.

I am reasonably certain that the small SD (as opposed to the tiny SD) for the years 2008, 2012, 2013 2015, 2016 and 2017 can be found in, at least some of, the mint baby sets. Not sure about the 2011. Can anyone confirm if the 2011 baby set has the small SD? Hans

HansG, yes that is the list of 20c varieties and die changes from 1999 to 2006. There are others from 2007 on for both varieties and die changes. Wayne

Quote: Can anyone confirm if the 2011 baby set has the small SD? There was an article about this in the CAB Magazine last year. The author said he only knew of two examples where the small SD had been used on a 2011 5c - one in a baby set and one in a mint set. There are probably more out there, but they appear to be extremely scarce.

Regarding 20c varieties and die changes, these are the only ones I'm aware of (although there could be others): 2007 Obverse: Thick and thin 7 2008 Reverse: Differences in how the swirl meets the platypus (one of which leaves an actual gap) 2010 Reverse: Bubble above the platypus's claws (mostly found in Queensland) 2011+ Obverse: Text uses a different font to pre-2011 releases 2014 Reverse: Several bubbles in different locations on the one coin (I've never found one, so it may be a one-off) There are also several commemorative coins, but I assume you already know about them.

Hi everyone. I have found a 5 cent coin without a date and both side of the coin are missing details. I found the exact same coin online.Error Coin Spotlight - Low Pressure Strike 1966-1984 5 Cent. The only difference is my coin is between 2000 - 2016 with the old queens head. Does anyone know how many were produced like this and if they are wprth somthing if anything? The weight of the coin is the same as a normal 5c coin and it has a smooth edge. Please if anyone has any information or the same coin I'd be more then happy to hear from you.

to the forum. There are people here who may be able to assist you, but much better pics will be needed. Nice in-focus close-ups would be good.
