Considering the history old Ben had with France, I'm surprised they did not do this sooner! Thanks for the "heads up"! Mike

France beat us to the Lindburgh Spirit of St. Louis commemorative a few years ago! Well, the U.S. didn't even do one because Lucky Lindy never did run for President! And, France beat us to the commemoratives for the Louisiana Purchase in 2003 as the U.S. screwed around and didn't get their nickel ready until 2004 and now France beats us to the Franklin commemorative and who really cares? Anyway you cut it Ben Franklin is just more of the same old stuff the U.S. politicians are shoving down our throats and yes, Old Ben was definitely a politician---but smart enough to ignore real elections! He served in many ways but its getting old and there is SO much more in this nation to commemorate than the same old bunch of dead guys! Gimme a break!!!

I'll agree with that, but I gotta admit that the second of the two coins, I think they call it the Statesmen or something like that, that coin is an extremely nice design in my opinion. ***This is a disclaimer*** I am going to buy one of these coins, so don't anyone go and think they will make any money from them in the aftermarket because all of the commemoratives that I buy bomb!!

OOOPS!!! I just looked at lim's link and we're talking about two different coins. I assumed that the discussion was about the Franklin commemoratives coming out of the U.S. Mint in a couple of weeks (orders at least). I guess I need to catch up on the conversation before I go and open my mouth!!

Every one here knew what you were talking about. We all would like to thank you for the warning on the Franklin issue. We will probably be buying the ONE you don't to enhance our efforts to get a winner! For the most part, even though those proofs are so sharp, always buy an unc. coin! You are safer there when it comes to making a dollar or two down the road, if that is what you are looking for. There are always far less unc. coins made (struck) in the commemorative program than proofs! If you are in it for the beauty and could care less about tomorrow then do as I do, cover my rear and buy both!!! Sorry, NO Ben Franklins for me! I will just stick with the REAL fifty cent pieces I currently own!

Wanna hint? A prediction? A little insight? Save those Franklin half dollars in your possession. Many a dealer are beginning to stockpile this series. The price is due to see a serious increase. Don't say you didn't hear it before hand. Any grade above AU and all the better dates should be held without exception.

Will have to agree ND as the Franklins have been climbing steadily the last few years and it is amazing what a few years can do! I see the explosion on the horizon as the Franklin silvers in higher grades are about to rival many other highly collected sets! Still working my second full set of uncs. but they are now coming very hard and at premiums I would have never dreamed of!!!

My Daughter has a comlete BU set, all 64 and higher and all of the proofs in 64-67 as well. The early proofs are already very expensive. I'm glad she liked the series, as I did not collect them myself! Mike
